Cockermouth Cemetery. Please report grey sightings - we want to protect the Reds.

As our previous post shared - two greys were seen in the cemetery yesterday.
We have also had a report of a grey seen in Harris park and one near the leisure centre. Also a dead grey near the Cockermouth mountain rescue centre.
The team at West Lakes and ourselves and other volunteers have worked hard to keep greys at bay over the last few years but now and then we get a grey make it ways into the town. With your help we can work at making the town safe for Reds again.
If you see a grey please report it to us

We are working with WLSI on this and sharing info.
Please- if you have Reds visiting your garden - keep a very clear eye out. Please disinfect your feeders. Email me/ or message and I can give advice.
We receive lots of grey reports at this time of year as young greys find new territory. It’s with your support we can remove the greys.
Please share with Cockermouth residents.
Community matters.

Thank you to all of you who attended our launch meeting last night. We really appreciate your support and signing up to volunteer. Lots for us to do to get us up and running. We will be in contact via email in the next few days - look out for an email. Check your spam box.
Our first priority is to form the management committee to get a constitution agreed and then hold our first AGM.
We still need volunteers who can help us set up further Facebook/ social media/ web site.
Maybe you know someone - who is passionate about IT and loves Red Squirrels 🐿️ who could do this for us.please get in contact.

The work of the Community matters so much. Two greys removed from the edge of Cockermouth this morning both on private land.

A couple of videos I have permission to share from a private woodland where a red squirrel volunteer works with the local residents to monitor the Red population and any greys that turn up. It took 3.5 years of work before Reds returned to this woodland.
