COMPLETION
After last week's storms, the final grouting has been done. The top of the pier is so perfect it's like a ballroom floor. Everything is extremely solid, much more so than when built 193 years ago. Nature is already taking hold and the stone is starting to support seaweed.
The rest of the pier will now need attention too...

'ROAD' TESTING
Easterly gales testing the work, and also redistributing the sand. The work should now be a lot stronger than the original as the core is no longer made of loose fill.

ALMOST THE END
The end of the cope course has been beautifully cut into the cliff, finalising the main body of masonry. The full extent is best seen from the east, with the lower levels re-using original stone. The harbour side is already accumulating sand again. Still quite a bit of finishing and grouting to do. Douglas and his partner, Lisa, admiring their work! Frida the Hund too.

THANK YOU!

On 14th January a Time Capsule with the names of all the generous people who used the QR code to make donations for the repair works was laid in the core of the pier. (We do not know how many other kind anonymous donors there have been.)

The amount and quality of the work carried out by Douglas, Lisa, George, Aaron, Euan and Evie has been fantastic.

Without everyone's generosity the fishing boats would not be as secure as they are and the beach would have been swept away.

THANK YOU!

WINTER WORKING
The final course is now being fitted with the greatest care. The blocks are dowelled into each other and the blocks below, with stainless steel bars (originally it was wrought iron) and then grouted up.
Mercifully recent high tides have not coincided with storms but another is due today...
Fortunately nothing stops Douglas and George!

THE TOP COURSE ARRIVES
10 pallets / 8.5 tons of 40 specially shaped cope stones being delivered by Hutton Stone. Fortunately recent storms have been from the 'right' direction.

TEMPLATES FOR THE COPE COURSE
We can now get a price for the stone for the 9m long, 1.2m wide cope courses. Though it will look simple from the outside, the hidden shapes are complex, as they were originally. Note the difference in level on each side, the Beach is coming back!
