Thank you to our local MP Ben Spencer, who we wrote to last week, for mentioning our letter in the House of Commons today, raising our concerns about business rates and support for Cobham’s small businesses.

šŸ‘‹ In the latest of our ā€˜Meet the Team’ posts, we’re delighted to introduce Greg:

I’m Greg Karp, vice-chair of One Cobham and managing partner at The Cobham Larder. Having grown up and gone to school locally, I’ve always felt a strong connection to the Cobham community. That connection deepened when I took over the much-loved Carluccio’s on the High Street.

When COVID brought that chapter to a close, I was determined to return to the High Street alongside familiar faces. In 2021, I joined forces with Leigh from Stoneleigh’s Family Butcher to create The Cobham Larder — a welcoming corner spot on Oakdene Parade where people can enjoy great coffee, fine food, and a genuine sense of community.

I joined One Cobham two years ago and have loved being part of an organisation that truly connects local businesses with the wider community. Cobham is a special place filled with remarkable people, and I’m passionate about helping it continue to thrive for years to come.

One Cobham has already achieved so much: delivering fantastic events such as One Summer’s Day and Onederland, supporting initiatives to make Cobham greener and more attractive, and working closely with the police and private security teams to ensure our traders, residents, and visitors continue to feel safe and supported.

I’m looking forward to many more years of supporting the local business community, building connections, and, of course, serving great coffee.

Interesting to see how the new East Surrey Council deals with local businesses - and their approach to community events…
We’ve always had a very good relationship with Elmbridge- for planning, supporting small businesses and helping organise and promote local events. Surrey CC have been less involved *and* less helpful… hopeful East Surrey will be more ā€˜Borough’ and *much* less ā€˜County’ - we look forward to working with both our new Councillors to support Cobham!

Today is ā€˜Surrey Day’, bringing communities together across towns, villages and attractions to celebrate everything that makes Surrey such a special place to live, work and visit? And aren’t we so incredibly lucky to have everything that we do on our doorstep in Cobham?
šŸ›ļø
One of the themes for this year is ā€˜hidden treasures’ - do you have a hidden treasure in Cobham that you’d like to give a shout out to? Let us know in the comments.
šŸ’Ž
So today, please support your local businesses, whether that’s popping into the village for some shopping, a bite to eat or a browse. We’ll look forward to seeing you! ā˜€ļø
