We are incredibly proud to recognise several fantastic achievements across 1001 (Monklands) Squadron over recent weeks.

During our recent Annual Formal Inspection, Wing Commander Ed Crawley promoted Cadet Flight Sergeant Dean Gordon to the rank of Cadet Warrant Officer โ€” the highest rank attainable within the Royal Air Force Air Cadets. A tremendous achievement and thoroughly deserved recognition for his dedication, leadership, and commitment over many years. Dean recently completed a competitive selection interview process and performed to a particularly high standard throughout.

Congratulations also go to Sergeant John Dearie on his promotion to Flight Sergeant. A well-earned promotion and recognition of the hard work and professionalism he consistently brings to the squadron.

Squadron Leader Andy Sutherland, our Sector Commander, was recently presented with the Wing Commanderโ€™s Coin from OC West Scotland Wing in recognition of his significant contribution to the Wing, including holding multiple Wing Staff Officer roles and delivering them to a consistently high standard in support of our cadets. A fantastic achievement and a reflection of the considerable work he continues to put in behind the scenes.

Acting Sergeant Alex Bayley has successfully completed the Combined Initial Course at the Royal Air Force Air Cadetsโ€™ Command and Leadership School at RAF College Cranwell, and has now been promoted to substantive Sergeant. Completing the course at Cranwell is a significant accomplishment and marks an important step in his journey as a CFAV (Cadet Forces Adult Volunteer).

It has been a hugely positive period for the squadron, and these achievements are a real credit to the effort, commitment, and standards shown by our staff and cadets alike.

Well done to everyone recognised โ€” you have all done yourselves and 1001 Squadron proud.

Last night, 1001 (Monklands) Squadron was delighted to welcome OC West Scotland Wing and former 1001 Squadron cadet, Wing Commander Ed Crawley, accompanied by Wing Staff Officer Sector 2, Squadron Leader Andy Sutherland, for our Annual Formal Inspection.

The evening began with Wing Commander Crawley inspecting the squadron on parade, before taking time to engage with our CFAVs, committee members and cadets throughout the night. The inspection also included a number of presentations, highlighting the achievements and hard work of our personnel over the past year. His return to the squadron as OC West Scotland Wing served as a fantastic example to our cadets of the opportunities available through the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, and how dedication and commitment can take someone from cadet to Wing Commander.

Our cadets did themselves extremely proud throughout the evening. They were exceptionally well turned out, conducted themselves brilliantly, and are a true credit to the Corps. Each and every one of them should be proud of their efforts.

The evening was a complete success, and we were truly honoured to welcome the OC Wing and WSO to the squadron.

Last night we said a very fond farewell to Cpl Daisy Collins, who has chosen to age out on her 18th birthday.
During her time with Team 1001, Daisy has built an impressive recordโ€”achieving multiple swimming competencies, progressing through Blue to Bronze shooting qualifications, completing leadership and aviation training, and gaining first aid and cyber certifications. Her commitment, positivity, and willingness to take on every challenge have made a real impact on the squadron.
We wish her all the very best for the future, and she will always be welcome back to Team 1001.

Thank you for everything, Daisy ๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸŒŸ Best Recruit โ€“ Outstanding Achievement! ๐ŸŒŸ

We are incredibly proud to recognise Cadet Ellie Rodger as the Best Cadet from our latest intake at 1001 (Monklands) Squadron RAF Air Cadets ๐Ÿ‘

From day one, Ellie has demonstrated exceptional commitment, enthusiasm, and a real determination to succeed. Whether itโ€™s learning new skills, supporting fellow cadets, or stepping up during training, she has consistently set the standard for others to follow.

Her attitude, discipline, and willingness to push herself embody exactly what it means to be a cadet โ€“ and this recognition is thoroughly deserved.

โ€œEllie has shown outstanding potential and dedication throughout her time with us so far โ€“ this is just the beginning of what promises to be an excellent cadet career.โ€

Please join us in congratulating Ellie on this fantastic achievement! ๐ŸŽ‰
