The actions we are seeing from Reform UK, including banning Pride events from council properties and removing LGBTQ+ displays from public buildings, are a stark reminder of the attitudes that gave rise to Section 28.

No one group is superior to another. Equality is about ensuring everyone is treated with dignity, respect and fairness.

Human rights are not a limited resource. Supporting LGBTQ+ people does not take rights away from anyone else.

Many in our community have watched attacks on trans rights grow in recent years. Now we are seeing attempts to remove LGBTQ+ visibility from public life more broadly.

History teaches us that prejudice rarely stops with one group. We should be learning from the past, not repeating it.

Our friends at Coalville CAN are showing a fantastic film this Wednesday, exploring the historic links between mining communities and LGBTQ+ activism.

If you’re interested in local history, community, and the story behind the film Pride, it’s well worth attending.

Don’t forget, our LGBTQ+ Support Group will also be taking place at Coalville Library from 4:30pm–6:30pm on Wednesday. Whether you’d like a chat, some support, or simply to meet new people, everyone is welcome.

We love seeing local organisations working together to celebrate diversity, inclusion and our shared heritage. πŸ’œ

We’re proud to announce that British Sign Language (BSL) interpretation will be featured as part of Pride in Coalville 2026.

This is an important step towards making our event more accessible and inclusive, and to our knowledge marks the first time BSL interpretation has been incorporated into a large-scale community event in Coalville.

A huge thank you to the players of the NWL Community Lottery, whose support has helped make this possible.

One Year On… and What a Year It’s Been! 🌈

Today marks one year since we hosted the very first Pride in Coalville.

What started as an idea became a reality thanks to the incredible support of our volunteers, performers, traders, sponsors, community groups, and everyone who attended. Together, we created a space where people could celebrate, connect, and be themselves right here in the heart of Coalville.

Over the past year, we’ve continued to grow, support our local LGBTQ+ community, launch new initiatives, and begin planning an even bigger and better event for 2026.

To everyone who has supported us on this journey so far: thank you. Pride in Coalville belongs to all of us, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you again on 1 August 2026 at Coalville Park.

Here’s to our first year β€” and many more to come. β€οΈπŸ§‘πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’œ

June marks the anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall uprising and celebrates the history, resilience, and achievements of the LGBTQ+ community.

In mining towns like Coalville, Pride carries special significance. During the 1984–85 miners’ strike, LGBTQ+ activists stood in solidarity with mining communities, and miners later stood alongside LGBTQ+ people in the fight for equality.

While progress has been made, LGBTQ+ people, particularly trans+ communities, still face discrimination and inequality today. That’s why visibility, support, and community remain so important.

Pride Month is about celebrating who we are, honouring those who came before us, and building a future where everyone feels safe, valued, and included.
