The actions we are seeing from Reform UK, including banning Pride events from council properties and removing LGBTQ+ displays from public buildings, are a stark reminder of the attitudes that gave rise to Section 28.
No one group is superior to another. Equality is about ensuring everyone is treated with dignity, respect and fairness.
Human rights are not a limited resource. Supporting LGBTQ+ people does not take rights away from anyone else.
Many in our community have watched attacks on trans rights grow in recent years. Now we are seeing attempts to remove LGBTQ+ visibility from public life more broadly.
History teaches us that prejudice rarely stops with one group. We should be learning from the past, not repeating it.
