The Lough Shore Sessions

The Lough Shore Sessions, Derrytresk, County Tyrone is a weekend festival of traditional singing and music taking place each November in on the southwestern shores of Lough Neagh. It is a successor to, and a continuation of the legacy of The Geordie Hanna Traditional Singing Weekend which ran from 1988 until 2017. Like the Geordie weekend, we hope to welcome singers, musicians and listeners from a

ll over Ireland and beyond to our community for a weekend of intimate "in session" gigs and open sessions of music and song in various venues.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the death of our friend Frank Kelly. Frank was a welcome visitor to us here in Derrytresk and the Lough Shore for singing weekends and music sessions for over 30 years. Indeed, he heard some of the songs so often that he knew the words better than the singers!
Frank was an absolute gentleman who will be deeply missed. We will fondly remember his gentle nature and wit.
We offer our deepest sympathy to Rita, his sons, daughters and family circle. Go raibh suaimhneas síoraí air.

The Lough Shore Sessions 2025 gets going in a few hours time! Safe travels to all who are on their way to Derrytresk! Here's a bit of guidance on how to find us. The best solution is to type in Derrytresk GAC into your Satnav or Google maps. Otherwise if you are at the M1 Junction 14 Tamnamore Roundabout, follow the signposts for "Washing Bay". Follow the road and take the first left turn, also signposted for "Washing Bay". Follow the Kong straight road for about a mile and take the second left turn at Kingsisland Chapel. Derrytresk GAC is then about 300 yards along the road on the left.

Any issues drop us a message on here and we will get you sorted!

One other point to mention, for those staying at the Cohannon Inn - the hotel cannot accept euros so please have either Stirling cash or pay by card. They appreciate your understanding on this.

See ye soon!

A reminder of our various singing sessions taking place over the weekend! On Saturday afternoon we will be back in the cosy surrounds of Falls Bar Derrylaughan for The Lough Shore Singing Session. Last year was our first visit to Falls Bar for one of our events and we are delighted to be returning! The session will run from midday until around 4.30pm and there will be soup and sandwiches to keep us going!

Later that night, The Half Room / Barry Kerr & Ruairí Cunnane concert will lead directly into our Saturday night singing session in the Lounge at Derrytresk GAC, where we have a real celebration of Ulster Singing in store. From around 9.00 - 9.15pm we will kick off the singing which will continue into the wee hours. For those more into the tunes there will be a session featuring Sinead McKenna, Micky Fearon and Damian McKee on just up the road at Falls Bar at the same time.

On Sunday we have the farewell singing session with the theme of Saving Lough Neagh. There will be songs of the Lough and a short conversation with local fisherman Gerard McCourt on the issues facing our beautiful Lough.

We can't wait to welcome all you singers and listeners back to the Lough shore!

On Sunday we have our usual Farewell Singing Session from 12 Noon in the lounge at Derrytresk GAC. Always a relaxed opportunity for a few more songs before folk head home!

This year we've decided to use our platform to help raise awareness of the current issues facing our beautiful lough. The first hour of the session will be themed around Saving Lough Neagh. Local singers like Niall Hanna will give us some songs of the lough and we will also have a short conversation with local fisherman Gerard McCourt, who has a unique insight into the current state of Lough Neagh and who speaks passionately and clearly about the subject.

We will then continue with our usual singing session, open to all singers and listeners as always! A light lunch will be served during the session.

Making sure we are all kept fed over the weekend, we are delighted to welcome back two brilliant local food truck businesses who are great supporters of the Lough Shore Sessions! They will be set up outside Derrytresk GAC.

On Friday evening, Bounce n' Burgers will be serving up delicious burgers, hand cut chips, hot dogs, chicken goujons, cheesey/garlic/curry or salt and chilli chips from around 6.30pm til after the gig.

On Saturday, Il Carro Della Pizza will be setting up their pizza truck from around 4.30pm so you can grab some properly amazing wood fired pizza between the sessions and the gigs. They will keep serving until after the gig.

Even if you aren't attending the festival, call down for some great food at Derrytresk GAC.

We will also have light refreshments doing the rounds during all our music and singing sessions. Soup will be served at the singing session on Saturday afternoon and there will be stew at Sunday's Save The Lough singing session. Huge thanks to Lowe Bros. Butchers for donating meat, to Newell Stores for donating sandwiches and ingredients and to our amazing volunteers for preparing and serving the food.

We won't go hungry!
