Last night was a close call and it is the start of the winter. The storms escalate over the next few months and last night was just a taster of heavy rain. If you prepare now for the winter, this can reduce your anxiety in case of future flooding. Here is some guidance from the government. Here also some tips to get yourself prepared:

- Move valuable things upstairs for the winter, photos, paperwork - things that can ruin in water.
- look at what defence you have, you can buy sandbags, hydrosacks, plastic sheeting, have old towels ready.
- you can get other flood items like toilet bungs etc
- speak to neighbours, they are going through the same thing and may have tips, our flood wardens have lots of experience, drop us a message if you need information
- get a box with torch/ candles etc as the electric may be cut in severe weather. Have a list of who to contact etc
- report blocked drains on the LCC app - clean streets. If you report them now they can help when the weather gets rough.
- in case of flooding reach out as others will often help you. Many of our wardens were out last night clearing culverts/ drains and putting up flood gates.

Thank you to them for giving their time and expertise to help keeping Whalley & Billington safe from flooding.

Checking your title deeds can be done via the land registry and will confirm exact ownership or boundary lines🏡 You can access the land registry here➡️ https://www.gov.uk/get-information-about-property-and-land

Using this service will confirm who owns a parcel of land. It is important to note that hedges, fences and earth banks may not signify your legal boundaries!

A person leasing riparian land will also have riparian responsibilities, unless an agreement to the contrary has been made with the landowner.
