Rotary will be on the streets of Clitheroe this Saturday July 25th collecting to support victims of the Venezuelan earthquake.
Items have already been sent by and your donation will support the ongoing supply of aid.
Donations can be by cash, card or via our QR code, Collectors will be on Clitheroe Market and by Wills on Castle Street.

Just One Life Brings Road Safety Message Home for Year 11 Pupils

Ribblesdale School's Year 11 pupils took part in the powerful "Just One Life" road safety event last week, aimed at educating young people about the potentially devastating consequences of dangerous driving.
Organised by school staff with the support of Clitheroe Rotary and delivered by Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, Lancashire Constabulary, the Ambulance Service, and the Clitheroe Neighbourhood Police Team, the day featured presentations, videos and a realistic mock road traffic collision demonstration.
Emergency services highlighted the dangers of the so-called "Fatal Five" driving offences: speeding, drink and drug driving, failing to wear a seatbelt, mobile phone use, and careless driving. Pupils then witnessed a live rescue scenario on the school courts, where police, fire and ambulance crews responded to a simulated collision involving two young people.
Firefighters demonstrated specialist rescue techniques, cutting away vehicle doors, pillars and the roof to free casualties, while ambulance crews treated and transported the injured. The event provided a powerful insight into the lasting impact that road traffic collisions can have on individuals, families and communities.
Pupils also had the opportunity to speak with emergency service personnel about motorbike safety, vehicle laws and responsible road use.
Ribblesdale School thanked all the emergency services staff, volunteers and Clitheroe Rotary Club for their dedication in delivering such an important educational experience.
A school spokesperson said: "This invaluable experience brought road safety messages to life and encouraged our young people to make informed, responsible decisions. It reinforced the message that one decision can change lives forever."

President Phil Naylor hands over his chain of office to incoming President Ian Tate.
Ian, a native of Beverley, will be supported by President Elect John Spencer, Secretary Ian Petty, and Treasurer Karin Wilson, along with all the members of RC Clitheroe.
Ian remarked, that 'Phil has done a fantastic job over the last year, and with a spirit of continuity prevailing in the club, he hopes to continue initiatives that Phil started and that will go beyond his year and into John's 27 - 28 and beyond into Johnathan's year 28 - 29!

At the end of each Rotary year, at the end of June, outgoing Rotary Presidents' traditionally make charitable donation from funds generated during their year in office.

Phil Naylor, outgoing Clitheroe Rotary President, awarded no fewer that 24 charities with a total in excess of £14,000.

The money was raised with events such as Santa's Sleigh, Ribble Valley Ride, Charity Golf day and many other fund raising initiatives.

The star of this years recipients was Harvey Hind from Clitheroe. Harvey, together with mum Kim and dad Sam, represented SENSE. Harvey is five years old and is the worlds first deaf blind actor and according to mum Kim, may one day be the first deaf blind James Bond! Harvey appeared on the BBC's Eastenders and now has an agent to handle future projects he's being offered, to promote SENSE.

Another local children's charity receiving a donation is MILLY'S SMILES. Founded in memory of Milly, her mum Lorraine, wanted to help families who's children are diagnosed with cancer related illness. Each child arriving for a hospital stay receives a bag known as the Milly Bag, containing lots of essential items, plus some fun items to help them on their way. Each Milly Bag costs around £140.

Many other charities received donations from Clitheroe Rotary including:

Ribble Valley Crossroads Care, Derian House Children's Hospice, The Army Benevolent Fund, Mountain Rescue, Carers Link, Art4All, Calvert Trust, Mercy Ships, Smile Train, RV Gateway Trust, Water Survival Box, East Lancs Carers Support, Home-Start, UK Med, Salvation Army, Cancer Bank, Guide Dogs, Marie Curie, Mary's Meals, Scouts, Polio Plus and the Rotary Foundation.

Incoming President, Ian Tate, hopes to equal or even exceed this amount in the coming Rotary year.

Sunday June 7th saw another successful repeat of the Ribble Valley Ride.
The event is organised and operated by the Rotary Clubs of Accrington and Clitheroe who again provided an exciting day for 200 cyclists of all abilities, with the age group from 12 to 87!
The event was spread over three courses of 70 ,50 and 25 miles and was completed without incident in good weather.
Many favourable comments were made in relation to the courses and to the quality and variety of the food provided at the feeding stations, located in Chipping and Tosside. One competitor remarked that ‘the Ribble Valley Ride is the only cycling event where you gain not lose weight due to the great food provided’.
Event organiser, John Spencer, of Clitheroe Rotary said ‘we owe a big thank you to our various sponsors and the riders that has again allowed several thousand pounds to share between the Rosemere Cancer Foundation and other Rotary supported charities.
We look forward to next year’s event, which will also see the Tour De France coming through the Ribble Valley.
