The Globe Book Group

The Globe Book Group Launched in 2018, we are an open group of friendly people who are book lovers. As a group, we read a wide mix of books (mostly fiction) from across all genres.

The Globe Book Group was launched in 2018 and meets at The Globe Coffee Shop, 51 Cambridge Street, Cleethorpes on the last Wednesday of each month (usually). We are a mixed gender and broad age group of friendly people who share a love of reading, enjoy talking about books and their diverse themes. This isn’t a serious, high brow group; laughter is the dominant feature of all our meetings. Add int

o this mix the fine teas and coffees on offer, not forgetting the delicious cakes, and we have all the ingredients for a great night out. It’s an opportunity to discover new authors, sample a different genre and perhaps reconnect with a book that you first read many years ago. Our book choices are randomly selected from members’ nominations. If you’d like to join us, just come along. The doors open at 7pm with a 7.30pm start. For more information, please message us via this page.

Wishing all our members and followers a Happy Christmas. As you can see, I'm busy reading the books my elves have chosen for you ... just to make sure that the surprises beneath your trees are enjoyable ones. If I can navigate the world in just a few hours, I should manage to complete this reading pile in time.

A literary discovery whilst visisting Oxford; this door in St Mary's passage, close to the University Church of St Mary the Virgin, is said to have inspired C S Lewis to write the Chronicles of Narnia.

Meanwhile, the lamp post in the second photo is the one where Lucy Pevensie first meets Mr Tumnus who tells her that it marks the beginning of Narnia.

A damoclean question mark hangs over the future of our local library services, and so, whilst in the city, I couldn't resist a visit to the rather striking library in Birmingham.
