The Dimobi Children Disability Trust was founded upon the realisation that there is a general lack of awareness of the need to give all children with learning disabilities the best start in life minority groups in the United Kingdom. Most parents for them to admit that a child suffers from the disorder is a major problem. The denial is, therefore, a major problem faced by most parents in the com
munity and this could result in setbacks for children with disabilities. Raising a child with learning disabilities often challenging financially, emotionally and physically. With the increasing number of children with learning disabilities residing the area, it is important that they are able to access support services to meet their needs Furthermore, some parents who have children with learning disabilities have their own cultural and religious beliefs with regards to disability. Therefore, Dimobi Children Disability Trust seeks to work in partnerships with a range of religious and faith organisations to raise awareness of the importance of promoting the health and well-being of children with disabilities. In addition cultural and religious beliefs and the stigma associated with children with disabilities preclude some parents from seeking professional help for their disabled children at the earliest opportunity. This results in the marginalisation of children with disabilities which ultimately affects their health and wellbeing across their life span We also aims to fill the skills gap that exists among agencies and our staff working with children through the provision of a range of specialised services for statutory and non-statutory agencies in the region. We seek to tackle the prevailing issue of denial within our communities and the reluctance of parent to seek early intervention for their disabled children. We focus on evidence, policy and practice, are core elements that underpin our work. The Dimobi Children Trust also seeks to promote multi-agency working with children with disabilities, their parents and other stakeholders to reduce the devastating impact of childhood inequalities to ensure that children with disabilities are supported to fulfil their fullest potential. We recognise that the best way to support children with disabilities is to provide professional, non-judgemental support and help parents to obtain advice tailored at promoting the needs of their disabled children.
