It's going to be a great week here at 🌻Sunflower Pantry Wester Hailes!

We've had very busy day stocking up our shelves, fridges and freezers, and we have a brilliant variety of food available this week. A huge thank you to our volunteer drivers, Mo and Thomas, for collecting donations from KFC and Morrisons in the Community at Edinburgh Gyle - Morrisons in the Community. 🚚

A special thanks also to Tess for organising our monthly trolley collection 🛒 it has made a huge difference this week and we're so grateful for your support! 🙌

This week's fresh fruit and veg includes:

🥭 Juicy ripe mangos
🥔 Baby salad potatoes
🥒 Plump green courgettes
🥗Salad boxes containing produce grown at Sighthill Community Centre: Gate 55

⚠️ We have now run out of carrier bags, so please remember to bring your own. If you have any spare bags at home that you could donate, we'd really appreciate it! 🛍️

Our Community Pantry shelves are a bit bare right now, and we can’t run without the amazing support of our local community.

Could your sports team ⚽, workplace 💼, community group 🤝 school or faith group ⛪ organise a wee collection for us?

Every tin, packet and jar makes a real difference to local people and even a small donation helps ensure families and individuals can access food when they need it most.

🙏 A huge thank you to everyone who regularly donates and supports us already your contributions keeps our pantry going and makes a real difference every day.

🥔 Tasty roast tatties, kindly donated by our friends at SCOREscotland. Thank you so much! 💛

Our opening times every Tuesday are:
🕤 9:30am – 12:00pm
🌆 5:00pm – 6:30pm

Please note that we are not currently accepting new members and are operating a waiting list at the moment.

Some photos from our official launch event on Tuesday to celebrate our move to Gate 55 and we have few people to thank 🎉🌻

We were delighted to welcome pantry members, partner organisations 🤝 and members of the local community 💛 for an afternoon of sunshine ☀️, great conversation, and a delicious lunch 🥗 made using locally grown produce 🌱.

It was wonderful to see so many connections being made in the space.

A huge thank you 🙏 to our member Kenny for speaking so openly and from the heart ❤️ about what the pantry means to him, and to all of the members who came along to show their support for the Sunflower Pantry Wester Hailes 🌻

Thanks also to our friends at One Stop Community One Stop Shop and Fresh Start for their thoughtful housewarming gifts 🎁 of toothpaste and shortbread 🍪which will fill a few shelves in our lovely new space!

Special thanks to volunteers Evelyn and Barbara 👏 for helping out on the day, to Big Noise Wester Hailes🎶 for the fantastic music, and to Sophie from Sighthill Community Centre: Gate 55 for championing the pantry and supporting the move, as well as providing the amazing locally grown produce 🌿 for the lunch! Thanks also to member Julia Rfferty from harvesting some beautiful and tasty edible flowers for the salad!

We’d also like to give a massive shout out 📣 to Scott the Bald Baker 🧑‍🍳who went above and beyond at short notice to provide some absolutely amazing and delicious cupcakes 🧁for the event. Thank you so much! 💛

Today is the day for our Sunflower Pantry 🌻 lunch party where we will be serving a homemade lunch, music from Big Noise Wester Hailes and the opportunity to meet other people from the local community smile 😃

The pantry will also be open this morning 🌄 and this evening 🌙 as usual and we have some really great 👍 produce in which includes tasty quiches 🧀 plump raspberries 🍇 and juicy sausages, perfect for BBQ 🌤

🌻 It’s only 4 more sleeps until The Sunflower Pantry Wester Hailes Launch Party! 🌻

Join us at between 12pm and 1:30pm on Tuesday 26th May, for a lovely afternoon with 🎶 music from Big Noise Wester Hailes, a chance to chat, connect, and meet fellow members of your local community!

We’ll also have a delicious homemade lunch 🥗 featuring homegrown produce from Sighthill Community Centre: Gate 55 alongside some foraged goodies courtesy of herbalist Jillian Faichney 🌿

There will be a few surprise sweet treats 🍰 too, and hopefully a wee bit of sunshine ☀️

We can’t wait to celebrate with you all 💛
