109th South Cerney Show

Our clever community of growers, bakers, crafters, photographers and creative children was out again in force over the first weekend of August. Despite the challenging weather and a hosepipe ban, the 109th show was as colourful and cheerful as ever. Hundreds of villagers and visitors came to the Village Hall to enjoy a huge range of entries. This meant a big uptick in monies raised, which is fantastic news in terms of supporting local organisations we can support this coming year (more news on how to apply to come)

The tearoom and raffle were buzzing all weekend! Thank you Judith Franklin and team!

We really appreciate the efforts of everyone who entered the show; we love to see all the exhibits. Our outstanding gardener was, once again, RAY SCRIVEN, who amazes us every year with his vegetables. SUSAN HATCH showed some lovely flowers, while the GOULD family’s preserves were up to their usual high standard. JANE WILLIAMS and JOAN TOWNSEND impressed with their inspiring craftwork, and the BROWNIES had been busy too.

In the children’s section, some of the judges’ favourites were Ralph’s fantastic Lego model, Isla’s cute cupcake dog, and Solomon’s spectacular garden on a plate. With some beautiful entries in the Handwriting classes, the judges had a difficult job, but in the end they awarded the 7 and under Handwriting Cup to ISAAC BROOKS, and the cup for ages 7 to 11 to HATTIE HIND, for the third year running!

Well done to all the winners! For those who just missed out, there’s always next year…

The committee would like to say THANK YOU to all the judges who generously gave their time, and to the local businesses who sponsored the show or donated raffle prizes. We’d also like to thank all committee members and significant others for giving your time and energy so willingly and brilliantly to make the show as fabulous as it is!

What a brilliant buzzing first day of the South Cerney Show yesterday !!

Doors open again today at 11am South Cerney Halls Village Hall on School Lane . Come on down to see the beautiful exhibits and stop for some tea and a piece of delicious cake. Some really fabulous raffle prizes on offer too! All proceeds donated to village organisations.

Prize giving and raffle winners announced 4pm

Good morning gardeners, bakers, crafters and photographers of South Cerney !

Now is the time to really focus in on what you’ll be entering this year and getting those entries in to the committee as soon as possible —

Will your tomatoes or courgettes be show ready ? 🍅
How long is that longest runner bean ? 🫘
Will you be entering your dahlias or sunflowers or this year 🌸🌻?
Have you been perfecting those flapjacks or Victoria sponge? 🍰
Have you finished the final stitches on your embroidery or decided which photo to print out and enter ? 📸🧶
Kids - have you been decorating your pebbles, practising your handwriting or putting the final touches to your Lego model or garden on a plate ?! 🪴✍️

So much fun to be had at this historic and wonderful village event! Don’t miss out !

Eleanor & Cathy had a lovely time helping to set up the Christmas tree for the Christmas Tree Festival this weekend in All Hallow’s Church, South Cerney, complete with allium seedhead baubles, seed packets and beautiful knitted vegetables by the brilliant Jean Hodson (who hit the local headlines in 2023 when her chutney beat to the top spot)

If you’re local do pop down, it’s going to be absolutely magical.
