We're pleased to share details of a six-week yoga course, starting on Monday 9th November 2026, designed specifically for bereaved parents and primary caregivers. 🧘‍♀️

This course is provided by Helen & Douglas House and is available to those known to Helen & Douglas House and is now also open to those not currently known to us, provided they live within our support area (Thames Valley and the surrounding counties). Places are limited. To sign up, email [email protected].

This course forms part of our bereavement support service and includes gentle accessible yoga, breathing techniques and guided relaxation. Each session will be followed by the opportunity to stay for refreshments and conversations. All levels of experience and all genders are welcome.

The six-week course begins on Monday 9th November and runs until 14th December 2026 and is being held at The Hummingbird Centre, Bicester.

Twelve years ago, Janet met a little boy called Nathan. His joy despite his life-shortening condition and complex symptoms both inspired and motivated her to fundraise for the hospice. In 2021, she took on the London to Paris bike ride, and it was Nathan’s cheeky smile and resilience that kept her going through the tough parts of her challenge. Having seen Nathan’s joy throughout his ten years with the hospice, Janet decided to leave a gift in her Will to make sure that this joy can live on.

Janet said: “The hospice is a place of laughter and warmth, even for families navigating incredibly challenging times. Nathan’s spirit motivated me during the toughest parts of my ride and inspired me to leave a gift in my Will. I hope my gift will help Helen & Douglas House continue to provide the vital care and support for families facing the unimaginable.”

We'd like to say a massive thank you to all the amazing people who volunteered at Oxford Half last weekend! Whether it was cheering on our runners, helping us over at the Helen & Douglas House tent and everything in between, we couldn't do it without dedicated volunteers helping to make events like Oxford Half a success.

One of those volunteers who amazed us last weekend was John Stobbs who took on the 13.1 mile course speed walking! He completed the course in under 3 hours and raised an impressive £1400 for the hospice. He's been volunteering for us for 10 years and says “Volunteering at Helen & Douglas House is incredibly rewarding. I've always been struck by the warmth and professionalism of everyone at the hospice, and it's a privilege to play a small part in supporting local families facing some of the most difficult circumstances imaginable.”

Our funniest fundraiser just got more inclusive!

We’re so excited to be featuring a live British Sign Language interpreter at the Helen & Douglas House Charity Comedy Gala 2027. Our interpreter will be on hand (pun intended!) to sign all the best jokes from Matt Richardson, Eddie Kadi, Esther Manito, Hal Cruttenden, Josh Jones and Lindsey Santoro.

The theatre also offers a Wi-Fi based Assisted Listening system, Mobile Connect, which plays a live feed of the performance to a headset or hearing aid via your mobile phone. Find out more on the New Theatre Oxford website.

A massive congratulations to all our runners who completed Oxford Half Marathon last weekend, you smashed it!

Over 300 runners took on the 13.1-mile route to fundraise for Helen & Douglas House, a massive personal challenge that makes a real difference to local children and families.

We also want to say a big thank you to everyonewho cheered the team on from the side of the route, supported the team at the Event Village or at our exclusive post-race reception. We heard from so many runners how your energy and enthusiasm kept them going throughout the run.

We're also thrilled to announce that together, we've raised £145k which is an incredible achievement!

Over 89% of our funding for the vital care we provide comes from public donations and amazing people carrying out challenges like this, so thank you to everyone who ran, cheered or donated.

Thank you to Oxford East MP Anneliese Dodds for visiting Helen & Douglas House today. Following our reopening after a small fire this summer, it was wonderful to welcome her back to the hospice.

The visit was an opportunity to meet our outstanding care team and see first-hand the impact of our support, as well as the moments of joy we help create every day.

This morning, Anneliese saw Bianka enjoying a music therapy session, bringing smiles, laughter and the chance for families to make precious memories together. 🧡

To mark the end of Baby Loss Awareness Week, we'll be lighting a candle to honour all of the babies, children and young people we've supported who have died.

🎉 Celebrating 18 Years Today! 🎉
Today marks 18 wonderful years since our charity shop first opened its doors, and what an incredible journey it has been!
We would like to say a huge thank you to all of our amazing volunteers, past and present, whose dedication, hard work and kindness have helped make our shop what it is today. We are also incredibly grateful to our loyal customers, generous donors and supporters who continue to help us make a difference in our community.
Over the last 18 years, we have shared countless memories, met so many wonderful people, and together raised vital funds for our cause. None of this would have been possible without your continued support.

It’s hard to believe it’s already been a year since you joined us. From day one, you’ve fitted in perfectly and become such an important part of the team.
You bring a huge amount of experience, knowledge and professionalism, but just as importantly, you bring a fantastic sense of fun that makes every day more enjoyable. It’s no surprise that you’re so well liked and respected by everyone who works with you.

By leaving a gift in your Will, you’ll be helping to fund vital care for children like Beatrice who passed away at the hospice in 2012.

For Beatrice’s mother Joanna, Helen & Douglas House was a vital lifeline at a turbulent time. Beatrice suffered catastrophic brain damage after an asthma attack and with her health getting worse, the hospice offered her family a safe haven at the hospice until she died.

Joanna has since chosen to leave a gift in her Will to the hospice, saying: “I have chosen to leave a gift in my Will for the inordinate care and caring, and the vital physical and emotional respite which Helen & Douglas House gave to Beatrice and our family for almost seven years.”
