Fire Safety and Prevention Training at TS Invincible.

Today members of the staff team were joined by our friends from Accrington Sea Cadets, and representatives from LADAR, to undertake Fire Safety Training provided by ‘North West Fire Training.’

As part of our commitment to ensure staff are suitably trained and qualified in responding to incidents that may arise during Sea Cadet activities, staff were shown the different types of extinguishers and their operation. We also got to have a go at using the equipment during a practical exercise outside.

Many thanks to those who attended. Also a massive thank you to North West Fire Training who spent their Saturday providing our staff with this valuable knowledge. It was also great to hear a few ‘dits’ from the instructor who led the course, as he had previously worked in the Royal Navy onboard HMS Invincible!

As the 2025 Remembrance Period draws to a close, we as a Unit cast our minds back to the past few weeks and all that TS Invincible has done to remember and honour those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service of our country.

Over the past two weeks, cadets and staff have been out and about in the town centre collecting on behalf of the Royal British Legion, and selling poppies to the general public. This is an important role we take part in every year to help boost donations for a worthy cause, while also getting the awareness of the Poppy Appeal out to the community.

The Ships Company have also been practicing hard with their drill training up at St Gregory’s church this year, in preparation for the Remembrance Parade that took place on the 9th November at the Cenotaph in Astley Park.

The Unit has always held a strong connection to the Poppy Appeal. With ex-cadets going on to serve in all branches of the Armed Forces. We particularly remember those from Chorley who passed away in combat, such as John Stroud who was a cadet at TS Invincible before going to serve in the Royal Navy during the Falklands Conflict.

The cadets drill on parade was impeccable, and they were a credit to their unit and their town. As always, it was a very fitting way for us to Remember them.

We Will Remember Them.

Yesterday the Unit was delighted to be shown around the Leyland Trucks factory.

Cadets were taken around the different sections of the factory including the production and assembly lines. They were able to get an insight into the day to day operations of one of the UK’s largest truck manufacturers.

Leyland Trucks and Paccar are a huge employer for the area, and are always looking to invest in young talent through apprenticeships. It’s great to be able to show our cadets the many career options that are available to them once they’ve left school or college.

A huge thank you to Leyland Trucks for showing us around, and a special thank you to CPO Salisbury who organised the visit. It was a great day out!

TS John Jerwood Visit

This evening, some of our Ships Company had the pleasure of visiting TS John Jerwood, one of the Sea Cadet Training Vessels, in Barrow in Furness.

Cadets were welcomed aboard by the crew and given an exclusive tour of all the compartments by the cadets onboard.

It was also great to see the two Sea Cadet Yachts also alongside in Barrow!

A massive thank you to the Offshore Team for accommodating our visit into their very busy schedule. It was a pleasure for the cadets to see the amazing opportunities that lay ahead for them in their cadet careers.

BZ to all involved in making the visit possible. Including CPO Edwards who coordinated the visit. Also a massive thank you to our friends at Sefton Sea Cadets for lending us their minibus for the transportation.

Going for Gold at the Chorley Flower Show 2025!

This weekend the Unit is taking part in the community garden competition for the third year running.

Our garden was designed and created by our cadets to help us mark our 60th Anniversary. There is always a nautical theme to our garden however this year was special as it centred around the rich history of our unit over the past 6 decades.

As always there were lots of amazing gardens but we were delighted to be awarded a Gold Award by the judges, which is a huge achievement and has made all the hard work the cadets have put in worthwhile. We were delighted to also see our local MP and the Mayor of Chorley who commented on how brilliant our garden was.

If you’re about in Chorley and want something to do this weekend, then come and see us at the Flower show. Our cadets will happily talk about our community garden but also about the wider “Sea Cadet Experience”.

BZ to all involved! And a huge thank you to Chorley Flower Show for all the work they’ve put in to make this event such a success.

Calling all potential volunteers! TS Invincible is recruiting new members of staff!

Did you know that Sea Cadets Chorley (like all Sea Cadet Units) is staffed by a team of dedicated volunteers.

Our small professional team come from a variety of backgrounds including; ex-military personnel, pilots, nurses, teachers, merchant seafarers and engineers. With most of us giving up one or two evenings a week to instruct cadets and inspire the next generation.

We are always on the lookout for new members of staff, whether that be uniformed volunteers (PO’s) or civilian instructors (CI’s).

If you think you’ve got what it takes, and want to give back, help a local charity and provide adventure through a nautical setting to the next generation. Please do get in touch with us via our page or through email at “[email protected]”.

All volunteers will be given sufficient training so they are confident in providing the “cadet experience”. You don’t need any prior naval experience, we will teach you what you need to know, all we ask for is a willingness to learn.

Adlington Carnival 2025

We’ve had another excellent weekend at the Adlington Carnival.

Cadets took part in the parade with our well known Trinity Float. The locals were more than happy to soak the cadets with their hosepipes as they were paraded through the town! We proudly dressed up our Trinity with the 60th anniversary bunting in an attempt to promote our diamond jubilee.

We then manned our stall in the Carnival grounds and ran a Tombola this year to help raise vital funds for our unit. Cadets were given the chance to go on the rides and enjoy all that was on offer.

BZ to all the staff and cadets who helped support the event. It’s always great to see us playing our part in engaging with the local community. A huge thanks to the organisers and stewards too because without them, the event wouldn’t be possible.
