“Scottys Little Soldiers” Fundraiser

While most of our Ships Company where at the Unit today undertaking First Aid and Seamanship training, three of our cadets and two of our staff attended the “Scottys Little Soldiers” fundraiser that had been organised by Stagecoach Bus.

They were out collecting to help raise funds for an amazing charity, who support bereaved military families. They were accompanied by the Army, RAF, and public services.

Inbetween collecting, the cadets managed to meet members of Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, who showed them around their fire engine and explained the various bits of equipment they had brought with them.

A huge thank you to Mr D.Vosper and the team at Stagecoach Bus for the invite, and an even bigger thank you to the staff and cadets who gave up their time to support a fantastic cause.

RESIDENTIAL OPPORTUNITIES

As we continue exploring the many opportunities available to cadets during ‘National Cadet Week.’ We now draw our attention to the many residential camps that cadets can take part in over their time with TS Invincible.

We are very fortunate at Chorley to be able to accommodate cadets for ashore and afloat training. These can be in one of the many specialisations or proficiencies. We are situated perfectly in the Rivington countryside, and have a stretch of the local canal just down the road from us.

One recent example of residential training was our September Rowing Camp, that took place at the end of our summer boating season.

Cadets were given the opportunity to explore a local length of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal in our Trinity 500 rowing craft. There they followed a syllabus that takes them from a beginner to Coxswain level!

We also were lucky enough with the weather to undertake a little voyage south of the unit to Fredrick’s Ice Cream!

Not only does this training have the benefit of teaching our cadets the ins and outs of rowing, but it also highlights the importance of key soft skills such as communication, and teamwork.

It was a superb weekend had by all, and the cadets were a credit to themselves.

QUALIFICATIONS AFLOAT AND ASHORE!

To start off ‘National Cadets Week,’ we thought we’d first highlight some of the amazing qualifications and training opportunities that are available here at TS Invincible.

Over the course of 2026 alone, our cadets have undertaken training in a variety of Specialisations and Proficiencies, both ashore and afloat.

These include (to name a few); Engineering, Seamanship, Catering, Rowing, Kayaking, and Sailing. All delivered in house, by our team of competent and experienced staff, and often accredited by national bodies such as the RYA, Paddle UK or BTEC.

Seeing our cadets engage with the topics presented to them is always a joy to witness. Even in a short amount of time, it can be staggering to see the confidence and knowledge that our cadets have in certain disciplines. With many of our older cadets going on to achieve Advanced Qualifications such as First Aid at Work, or the Paddlesport Safety and Rescue Qualification.

Over the summer, we are fortunate to spend 3 solid months training afloat at the Anderton centre on Rivington Reservoir. Here cadets attain roughly 40-50 boating hours across our three main watersports of Rowing, Sailing, and Kayaking. We are very fortunate to share a close relationship with our friends at the Anderton Centre to enable us to deliver this training and to access the water.

The above just shows one or two of the many benefits of being a cadet, and we can’t wait to share more with you!

Sea Cadets Chorley are back to posting on our social media channels.

Today marks the start of 'National Cadets Week,' where we share the great work of not only our cadets, but the entire Sea Cadet Corps, and the wider cadet family.
