WHAT/WHO INSPIRES ME? 💙✨
I know this one is still slightly raw, but I couldn’t not use this person for this day as I’ve followed his and his incredible family’s story since his initial diagnosis.
Rob Burrow CBE, was and still is such a huge inspiration to me and to so many others. He was in his sporting and athletic prime when he was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND), which must have been the most almighty blow not only mentally and physically for him, but also beyond ridiculously challenging for his wife and 3 children.
This diagnosis could have been such a catalyst in him totally disappearing from public life and allowing MND to progress behind closed doors. Instead, he boldly chose to not shy away from his diagnosis, but to use his platform by being in the public eye due to his sporting success to raise over 15 million pounds in less than 5 years - all the while his health ever declining.
However poorly he must have felt, especially in those last few months, he always made sure he showed up because he believed that the cause was so much bigger than him, which is something I carry with me daily.
On those days when I feel down or say the words ‘I can’t do it’, I think of Rob and think, shame on me. He and his family are a true inspiration - there is always someone worse off than you.
If I ever am lucky enough to have an ounce of his courage, then I’ll be a lucky woman indeed.
