Derian House is a purpose built children’s hospice with 12 beds for children and young people up to the age of 18 years, and a four bed extension, The Lodge, which is for young adults aged 16 – 25. At Derian House we offer professional care, practical help and emotional support to the whole family. Whether in the hospice through short planned stays, or in the family home with the backing and encouragement of our Derian at Home team, the support we provide is driven entirely by the family’s needs and wishes. We are currently supporting more than 400 families of children with a life-limiting illness in Lancashire, South Cumbria and Great Manchester, and a further 200 families who are receiving bereavement support. For them, Derian House is a lifeline in helping them cope with the highs and lows of their child’s illness, and its aftermath. This year, it will cost us £5million to run our services, with only 12% coming from government funding.

“Gotta go fast!” ⏩

Seven-year-old Ayaan is a huge Sonic the Hedgehog fan, so we wanted to make his Derian Wish extra special by surprising him with an exciting visit from his favourite speedy blue hedgehog! 💙

Ayaan’s wish was for a brand-new TV and sensory lights to create his very own cosy space at home, to relax and enjoy his favourite things ✨

Thank you to the incredible team at The Mascot Mum for helping us to bring Sonic to Ayaan and making his wish even more magical 💚

In memory of our Fran 💫

On what would've been her 23rd birthday, our superstar's lovely family dropped by the hospice to celebrate with Derian friends in true Fran fashion... 🥰
..with a glamorous cake complete with flowers and glitter adorning it, of course! 🎂

Here's the second installment of another successful celebration! We never tire of thanking the incredible people who do such wonderful things to support us 🥰

💚 Derian grandparent Mark Halliwell raised over £500 for us at his 60th birthday party last weekend.

💚 We had a lovely donation of beautiful handmade bramble bears from our friend Jeanne Kenyon.

💚 Volunteer Jane Youds will be raising money for us at her local WI group this weekend, by getting people to guess the names of some very cute handmade teddies.

💚 Yvette Brown and Paul Doherty came along to present us with a cheque for a brilliant £2,015.33, money of which they raised at their annual ball. Overall, there was a phenomenal £6,045.99 raised, which was split evenly between ourselves, North West Ambulance Charity and the Ian Rowe Community Fund.

💚 The dedicated team from Estate Research narrowly avoided the rain and ended up with blue skies for their sponsored walk from Scarisbrick Marina, raising a superb £1,410 for us in the process.

Have we got a jampacked celebration in store for you! Here's Part One of this week's fantastic fundraisers 🙌

💚 Dedicated supporters Val & Peter Boulton have raised an epic £3,432.50 at their recent bingo night.

💚 Lauren and Lee donated 90 pumpkins for us to decorate the hospice with - and carve, of course - during spooky season, in memory of their son Luke. They picked the pumpkins from Pick Your Own Pumpkin Farington, at the heavily discounted rate of £1 each.

💚 Staff at HMP Preston raised a fantastic £1,392.75 for us at their charity fun run back in September.

💚 Horses Alfie and Reign (as well as their handlers Catherine, Louise and Alisha) were a very special part of a Derian Wish last week, when we surprised Lewis with a trip to the Grand National.

💚 Ronnie's Bar raised £140.19 at their charity event earlier this month.

..with their BRAND NEW Steak & McGuinness Pie - made alongside none other than Bolton icon Paddy McGuinness! 🤩

We were kindly gifted a bag full of pastries for our Lodgers to do a taste test today... and we all knew they'd be brutally honest! 🤭

Before we show you their verdict (spoiler alert - it's good news!), get on down to Greenhalgh’s stores, sandwich vans and online for your very own Steak & McGuinness Pie - with all profits going to both charities 💚

They've been making an abundance of Christmas decorations to adorn the fir tree that they have very kindly pledged to sponsor - one of 150 that will help light up the hospice gardens this festive season🎄

We are extremely proud of Derian House alumnus Zack Kerr, who has once again campaigned for improved accessibility - this time, taking his latest fight straight to Westminster alongside his local MP 🤩

Zack, who has become nationally recognised for his work campaigning for better disabled facilities, visited the Houses of Parliament last week to press the Government to improve accessibility at hospitals across the county 💫

Along with Hyndburn MP Sarah Smith, he was even given a behind-the-scenes tour of 10 Downing Street 🙌

Zack previously spent five long years campaigning for specially-adapted bathrooms, before reaching a breakthrough in 2022 when the government announced millions of pounds of funding to install them in over 500 public places throughout the UK 👏

Our superstar's hard work has enabled others like him - with a life-limiting condition - to be hoisted safely from their wheelchairs and changed in privacy and with dignity, whereas without them, they faced a choice of either staying at home or restricting their social lives because of their needs ✨

We will always support the incredible work of Zack - keep on fighting the good fight and making a real difference! 💚

Led by Derian mum Leanne (Leanne Made-it By-Leanne), the gorgeous group got inventive and made an abundance of autumnal creations 😍

Our Bereaved Mums group is a chance for Mums to meet with others who've lost a child, and speak openly and honestly in a relaxed environment ✨
