Just spent another hour, for the second time today, rehydrating, bathing,
Wounds, medicating and feeding this beautiful ❤️ very injured hedgehog
5 minutes after treatment he was out eating kitten biscuits which I'm absolutely over the moon to see ❤️
Clean snuggly bed and little hear source too to make sure this precious hedgehog is comfortable, warm, hydrated and has plenty of food choices plus fresh water
It's tough on the poorly ones they need injecting with fluids and meds to help them to feel better plus trying to feed them to
I'm sure they must feel so much better having care and treatment ❤️

We are now closed to new arrivals unfortunately.

The rescue is at maximum capacity and we can't accept any more hedgehogs for the time being 😪

We are ....
▫️Short of space
▫️Short of time (not enough hours in the day and days in the week)
▫️Short of energy
▫️Short of money
▫️Short of meds such as F10, Hibiscrub and Vetericyn
▫️Short of non-bio Fairy laundry pods (for washing snugglies/bedding).

The volunteers work hard to support Janette care for all the hedgehogs, but we are only there for a few hours each day. The rest of the time Janette has to bath, medicate and hand feed babies on her own. It's long hours and exhausting.

On top of that Janette's mobility is severely impaired because she needs a hip replacement. 🦿
Her pre-op is 10th June and the op will hopefully happen in June/July 🤞
We have to reduce her workload to give her time for physio, recovery and appointments.

We really appreciate all your support during this tough period. Thank you x

🦔 If you find a hedgehog please contact your nearest vets or call other rescues to see if they have space (although many others are full too).

As all rescues, including us, are receiving horrendously injured and poorly hoglets and hedgehogs it's a very busy and emotional time I
We are sorry if we have missed any calls but you have no idea how much work is being done to try to save these precious beautiful innocent hedgehogs ❤️
All morning I spend feeding , poo checking, administer sub cu fluids and appropriate medication for internal parasite burdens
So many are arriving with strimmer Injuries and are having to be put to sleep 💔
I'm still, after so many years of looking after hedgehogs, absolutely devastated to "still see" so many arrivals being hurt by humans
All we ask is that you check, check and check again before you ever switch on these "murder machines"
All day is spent cleaning and weighing and feeding all our poorly hedgehogs as well as administering medication.
We've had the fans brought down from the loft, and placed fly screens everywhere.
Blue bottles everywhere, especially around injured hedgehogs.
Here are just a few pictures.
I've spent the last hour bathing "again today "all my injured new arrivals to clean up infected wounds and make them more comfortable tonight.
All hedgehogs have received medication today as well as fluids
Some of the smaller hoglets are being fed every few hours as well as medication and fluids.
Only 3 possibly 4 are ready for release next week but the rest are new poorly arrivals young, injured and needing daily care
A few photos from tonight
We are desperate for the following items if you can help ?
Hibiscrub
Medihoney for wounds
F10 germicidal wound spray
Plus any donations for food supplies would be appreciated
Most poorly hoglets and hedgehogs are loving the royal canin recovery food which unfortunately is so expensive
Any donation you can make really would help the hedgehogs at the rescue

Lovely card from Keith and Kieran through my letter box with a very kind donation
Thankyou ❤️ and to you all for supporting the rescue and helping me help the hedgehogs
We are over capacity I'm afraid overwhelmed with so many coming in so very injured and desperately poorly
We also received a very stressed mummy yesterday
Found in a shed in done hay quietly raising her 2 baby hoglets
Sadly she was disturbed, taken out of her safe ( or what she thought was safe)comfy bed , put in a carrier and brought to the rescue
It took me over 4 hours to calm her
I was so worried, she was so stressed, she would reject her babies or worse
It took time to calm her settle her and fingers crossed she is now feeling much more relaxed
Her babies were scared too, peeping loudly for hours as mummy was so stressed and didn't want to know 💔
I had to intervene
I calmed her, settle her and fingers crossed there's been no distress or peeping from the babies
She's been left alone today
Plenty of food and water, should she needs it but leaving her alone to settle down with her beautiful little ones ❤️ ❤️
I've still got 2 small hoglets to feed a bit late but now a glass of malbec is definitely needed
Thankyou ❤️

Another seriously injured female hedgehog arrived today and it's definitely a strimmer injury 💔
Found in the road on Astley Village
A wonderful and very kind gentleman called Neil stopped the traffic to rescue her ❤️
He did get abuse!!!! Nobody else stopped to help this vulnerable beautiful hedgehog
That's very upsetting to hear Astley Village traffic
She was in real distress and desperately needed help
Any hedgehog running around in daylight, especially on a main road, is in trouble
Can I ask you all to share this please, especially if you live in Astley Village?
And those people who gave Neil abuse today, for trying to help a poorly and very distressed hedgehog, I have plenty to say but honestly would 5 minutes of your time to help him have really been that difficult ????

She has facial, nose and skirt injuries all deeply infected
She's been bathed and cleaned up
I had to trim all her spines around the deep nasty wound and I've applied manuka honey
She has had lots of sub cu fluids, pain relief and antibiotics and started treatment for roundworm
Bless her she's suffered for a while and is now safe, not run over thankfully, warm and feeling a lot calmer than she did earlier today ❤️

Our little boy desperately hanging on after another bath to clean his facial wounds, sub cu fluids to help his emaciated body, roundworm treatment and pain relief and antibiotics and regular feeds, but sadly today only taken about 6 mls 💔
He's absolutely adorable but I know he's struggling bless his beautiful heart

Long days looking after so many poorly hedgehogs who need so much attention every single day
I've just finished work but before bed it's filling up my water dishes for my night visitors
Please do it now
Please put out water and kitten biscuits for hedgehogs
They really need our support ❤️
A bowl of fresh clean water can really help our hedgehogs especially as the temperatures are going to rise over the weekend
Water is so important

THANKYOU ❤️ for reading

Our little boy who arrived yesterday lunchtime with serious injuries to his nose/ face and foot
Refused to be seen by a vet, has now had 3 hibiscrub baths
All fly eggs and live maggots removed from his injury sites
Lots of sub cu fluids throughout the day
Antibiotics, pain relief and has now started with a pinch of parasite treatment because he's so weak
He's taken a few small feeds today of royal canin recovery food plus warm water and abidec multivitamins
After his bath he's back on a heat mat to keep him comfortable and warm
God bless this little boy who has been rescued and is now safe warm clean hydrated and given pain relief and antibiotics
I've also applied manuka honey to his wounds to help the healing process ❤️
He's absolutely adorable and still very vulnerable getting every treatment I can give because he's worth saving ❤️
I just hope he's strong enough to fight for his life with my help

Ok weekend weather is going to get a lot warmer
Please put out more fresh water please to help our wildlife
I've cleaned and re filled all my fresh water dishes today and cleaned and re filled bird baths so I know that all my wildlife have fresh clean water both day and night
Sadly we lost a new arrival from yesterday a young male with a broken front leg 💔 who had been suffering for a while
He never moved but died warm and safe and out of pain over night
So many have arrived at the rescue and they all deserve to be treated with love and compassion
I hope you all have a wonderful bank holiday weekend but sadly more injured or worse hedgehogs will arrive
All we can ask is
Please think about wildlife before you start strimming or mowing or taking down a shed or decking or digging up hedgerows or pampass plants
Most female hedgehogs will be pregnant now or about to give birth???
They've chosen a safe quiet place to raise a family
Please don't destroy their home ❤️

THANKYOU to Donna Maskell and Tony Maskell who are incredibly dedicated and committed to try to help keep the rescue and work so hard to clean up, paint, move furniture and much much more
And to Carole Mckone who also dedicates her time painting, shifting and moving
As well as arranging fundraising events
They have all spent the entire day painting and glossing upstairs ❤️
We are frantically trying to decorate my home to get it valued as my mortgage ends in June and I don't have the money to pay it off
Interest only, advised????, when starting a hedgehog rescue, which I don't regret for a second, but moving forward I have a few tough decisions to make but "not helping hedgehogs" isn't one of them????
I made a decision to commit my life to wildlife and that's something I will never regret not ever but financially I didn't forward plan
Saving thousands and thousands of hedgehogs means more to me than money but sadly that's not the way of the world

Thankyou ❤️ for your support and love 💕
These precious beautiful hedgehogs deserve our help
Please help them
Fresh water and kitten biscuits are enough to help save a hedgehog's life
Enjoy your weekend but please think about your wildlife
They are just as important
The birds have babies
Hedgehogs will have babies
Be careful and thoughtful PLEASE

So sorry for being quiet on updates
It has been very busy and demanding as well as absolutely heartbreaking 💔
We've received " far too many severely injured young hedgehogs" from the Gillibrand area?
Covered in grass cuttings??
Their precious legs were broken, horrendous injuries to heads and the infection was at least a week old
Horrendous suffering to these innocent young hedgehogs
They all broke my heart as they needed to be "urgently" put to sleep 💔 as the injuries were horrific
Chorley council we need to have a conversation please regarding all these unnecessary deaths due to strimmers and grass cutting??? In this area
All found literally dying, collapsed and in a devastating condition
THANKYOU ❤️ to everyone who picked these precious poorly young innocent hedgehogs up and brought them to the rescue
Unfortunately I was unable to save them due to their injuries
Thankfully now they are not suffering but so young they didn't get a chance of a wild free and safe life!!!!
And still more arrive
It's certainly a daily challenge and battle to save these precious 💞 beautiful ❤️ innocent hedgehogs, when they are found so injured, so dehydrated and full of parasites
2 more arrivals today and yesterday hence I've not had a chance to post
THANKYOU ❤️ to everyone who supported our pole green garden centre tombola event
Christine Davidson and her team raised £334
It wasn't too warm but they enjoyed the day
Really appreciated the hard work and the fundraising helps the rescue very much ❤️
One of today's new arrivals is still by my side
Severely attacked with bites to face, nose, toes, feet, emaciated and freezing cold
Needing sub cu fluids regularly, bath to clean all the wounds, removed fly strike eggs ( so many) luckily not hatched
Tried a couple of oral feeds but only taken a little so far but certainly hydrated now, warm as toast, given pain relief and antibiotics and a little roundworm treatment so far
Wounds have a little Manuka honey on them
The worst part of this it the lovely finder Calum rang 2 vets this morning asking for help
But they refused to see this precious hedgehogs just gave him telephone numbers to contact
I haven't spoken to the vets in question yet!!!! In Chorley
But I will
They didn't want to see the hedgehog or help it in any way, how sad is that!!
Ok thankyou ❤️ for your wonderful support I know it's tough for everyone at the moment
But as more arrive at the rescue, needing help, we will need extra food, extra medication, extra needles and syringes, kitten biscuits and royal canin recovery food, F10 wound spray, hibiscrub, cotton wool pads and buds
Adlington Veterinary Centre our vet bill topping up
It's going to be a lovely weekend weather wise so please please be vigilant if your going to spend time in your gardens
Already hoglets have been disturbed and lost their mummies because of dismantling sheds or decking without checking
Hedgehogs are pregnant now, females are giving birth now and could be anywhere in your gardens
Please think wildlife whatever you do over the weekend ❤️
It could really help to save our declining hedgehogs
Have a wonderful bank holiday weekend everyone
Please keep everything crossed for today's new arrivals I'm doing everything I possibly can to save them ❤️ ❤️

Hedgehog awareness week

Another 2 very poorly arrivals today 💔 found out in the day in gardens, one not moving and very dehydrated and thin and another desperately looking for food
Both severely dehydrated and definitely will need parasite burden treatments over the next few weeks
Both now warmed up, given sud cu fluids x 3 a little pain relief and poo sample checks reveal both roundworm and lungworm burdens
Please offer fresh water bowls for our struggling hedgehogs and wildlife
We might have a little rain over the next few days but water is a life saver ❤️ and the ground is so dry and hard
That's difficult for foraging hedgehogs to find natural insects
I've just refilled all my water bowls for my hedgehogs tonight
All birds baths and bird bowls have been cleaned and refreshed for the early birds in the morning
Cleaning feeders and water baths and water bowls is so important to stop any bacteria being transmitted to any wildlife

Thankyou ❤️ for your amazing support
Bank details as requested from a few of our followers
Account number 27852644
Sort code 010194
Royal canin recovery food definitely needed at the rescue
Kitten biscuits we use a mix of:
Go cat Kitten
Purina kitten
Or any kitten biscuits would be very much appreciated as we mix them together

We have released another 2 healthy beautiful hedgehogs tonight
They desperately wanted to leave ❤️
Corbett and Vicky voo voo
An absolute joy to health check them today and set them on their way
Now 25 healthy hedgehogs have been set free from the rescue so far this year ❤️
More healthy hedgehogs are getting ready to be released next week after struggling on arrival and needing a rescue to monitor them and get them well enough
That's what we do ❤️ along with hedgehog rescues everywhere
Please please share
Please look after your wildlife and be careful when cleaning up your gardens and sheds and please please don't strim without checking for wildlife
Please BE
"HEDGEHOG AWARE" ALL THE TIME
They really do need your hedgerows and log piles and compost heaps and fresh water and a few kitten biscuits and shelter in your gardens
THANKYOU ❤️ to everyone for your support and donations, we really do need your help
So many poorly hoglets and hedgehogs have a chance to recover at the rescue and then, be set free, once they are well enough to face the wild world again, healthy, thanks to you for rescuing them and the rescue for getting them back to full fighting health ❤️
