Sorry for being quiet everyone
But we have been absolutely inundated with tiny poorly freezing cold hoglets and hedgehogs, full of fly strike and live maggots
Severely dehydrated and in some cases emaciated and arrived with awful injuries
Every hoglet needs regular syringe feeding, sub cu fluids and appropriate medication
Warmth and more warmth
Maggots and fly strike egg removal this sometimes requires bathing and the correct medication and wound cleaning and medication plus trimming spines to avoid them sticking into wounds
This tiny little girl is still in a devastating condition arriving at only 72 grams !!! 5 days ago
I've called her PRECIOUS 💞 💕 💕 because she really is
Today/ tonight she weighs 122 grams ❤️
Despite 6/7/8 feeds daily plus fluids and a pinch of meds to address her parasite burdens and plenty of warmth she's still struggling 💔
Born so late in the year, god bless her mummy and siblings, who unfortunately weren't located
It's vital to me personally and my team, to do everything we can to save every hoglet or hedgehog that arrives needing urgent treatment at the rescue

Desperately need newspapers and extra food due to the number of hoglets and hedgehogs on site at the moment
Possibly a few can be released pending health checks next week?
They will need to be released in a safe and quiet environment as bonfire night and bloody fireworks will start !!!!!!
but with so many small and vulnerable hoglets and hedgehogs needing so much care it looks like we're gonna have alot at the rescue over the winter
We really need more food please especially royal canin recovery food available at pets at home, zooplus or Amazon
With over 60 on site at the moment? Possibly more to arrive? food supplies are our priority
Any of the following foods will really help
Tesco jelly and gravy pouches or tins no fish flavours
Go cat kitten biscuits
Purina kitten biscuits
Royal canin recovery food available on line
Royal canin kitten biscuits
Gourmet pouches chicken turkey and duck
Sainsbury's tinned food in jelly or gravy
It's certainly been very emotional when I can't save a poorly hoglet or hedgehog that arrives simply too late to save 💔
Please keep feeding your precious hedgehogs and very small young hoglets are now out??
Always a concern so late in the year especially if they are very small and under weight
If you are concerned please contact us or your local rescue and always have a high sided box and a hot water bottle or heat mat prepared just in case you need to house a poorly or tiny hoglet or hoglets overnight
They need warmth and comfort to help them survive the dropping temperatures

Devastating news tiny, freezing cold,I emaciated young juveniles being found lifeless and struggling
Please please be kind to these precious poorly babies
They need picking up and warming up immediately
Please don't put them under a bush
Please don't leave them alone in the cold as they are young, small, vulnerable and cold
We've been inundated with tiny hoglets
Some have been badly injured and have had to be put to sleep 💔
Some are so cold they are barely alive
Some have been housed for a few nights without specialist care or heat
Sometimes a rescue is so busy and struggling for space to accommodate more so always be prepared
If you need to learn come and visit the rescue or your local rescue
A hoglet found out during the day is
NOT OK
Please never try to look after them yourself without guidance from your local rescue
Be prepared to house a hoglet "just overnight" so the rescue can prepare, move around other hoglets or hedgehogs and make space for a new poorly arrival
All we ask is that you have a heat source???
A heat mat is preferable, as a hot water bottle won't last all night
Please come and learn how to help as so many juveniles are now in serious trouble and sometimes a rescue is not always available when you need them
but we are available, once we can get through all our current poorly hoglets and hedgehogs and can plan new arrivals
I'm planning an emergency care course one afternoon a week for all you hedgehog lovers who need to know what to do in a crisis
All hedgehog rescues are absolutely bursting with new arrivals and all we need is your support when finding them
We will take them
We will help you
We will be here
We will guide you
But we need more support, when so many are being found, these desperately poorly hoglets need love and warmth initially
Please help rescues help more hoglets and hedgehogs survive
We can't just make a cage or hutch free in a matter of minutes, sadly, as we are always full

So many juveniles are arriving in absolutely devastating conditions needing sub cu fluids, poo sample checks and medication, the correct food for their age, warmth warmth and more warmth and even more warmth
Examination for fly eggs or even worse live maggots because of an injury???
They are so many vulnerable babies out there without their mummy??? Or siblings??
Emergency care and knowledge is definitely important
Rescues will help them but we/ they also need to move hedgehogs around to accommodate more poorly hoglets
It's not easy but with your support it could be easier????

The Atlantic puffin, barn owl, buff-tailed bumblebee and European hedgehog will represent UK wildlife and feature as the central images on our next series of banknotes.

6 beautiful healthy "big boys" have been released
Tucker who got his name from literally "tucking into his food" from the moment he arrived at only 253 grams to the evening he left the rescue at 1302 grams together with his sibling
Taylor who was a little quieter and definitely had more manors with regards to his food
Arrived at 312 grams and released at 1307 grams
Both together ❤️ adorable siblings carrying a little "Christmas weight" but I hope that gives them enough fat reserves to keep healthy over the winter ❤️
Jack and Jamie have also been released
Jack arrived at 275 grams and released at 1263 grams
Jamie arrived at 152 grams 💔 and needed alot of treatment for dehydration, parasite burdens, feeding 6 x daily he had horrendous lungworm and roundworm parasites and he coughed badly for a while he also needed antibiotics and heat mats/ warmth/ fluids and feeding
He was released at 1075 ❤️
Mason arrived at 244 grams and was released at 1333 grams having suffered injuries to his face which took me a couple of weeks to clean and treat
He was emaciated, freezing cold, dehydrated, so fluids, heat mat, baths in hibiscrub, parasite burdens treatment, antibiotics, pain relief honey applied to wounds
He absolutely loved his royal canin recovery food ❤️ I hope he's getting that in his feeding station or he might just make his way back to the rescue
As I'm sure they all might because they demolished their food every single night ❤️
And Pike arrived at 212 grams with a very nasty head and foot injury
Bathed and cleaned the wounds, emaciated needing sub cu fluids, pain relief, antibiotics and roundworm treatment as well as a heat mat
Regular daily baths to keep the wounds clean and honey applied daily
Ate all his food responded well to all his treatment and was released at 1184 grams
Stay safe guys and enjoy your freedom ❤️
PLEASE look after our endangered hedgehogs
It's getting colder hedgehogs' will need secure and safe nesting/sleeping sites in your gardens
They will be looking around to find somewhere to bed down for over the winter, somewhere safe and warm
Put food and water in your greenhouse if your closing it for winter
Same with your garages
Put supplies out now in your feeding stations
Let them gain a little extra weight before the really cold weather arrives
Dawn, a very poorly female, has given birth at the rescue on the 25 th of September!!
More females could still be giving birth or pregnant somewhere in your gardens, sheds, under your decking????
Please be aware of that when you are moving or tidying your gardens, sheds, garages, etc for winter, hedgehogs could still be using your gardens???? PLEASE PLEASE LOOK CAREFULLY and please leave out supplies just in case
Rescues work hard to get poorly hoglets big enough, strong enough and well enough to face the wild
Please help them stay healthy in the wild ❤️
I cry every time I say goodbye to a hedgehog because I remember the first day they arrived
Cold, tiny, vulnerable, dehydrated, maggots, fly eggs, hungry, parasite burdens and injuries
It can take months to rehabilitate and poorly hoglet ready for the wild ❤️
I've done my job to the best of my ability but I can't control the outside world they now face
Please be vigilant and kind because our hedgehogs really do need all the help they can get from you

We've certainly had a very tough few weeks at the rescue
Releases went really well hopefully giving us a chance to clean hutches and order new hutches ready for winter
No that's not happened as more poorly and injured and collapsed hoglets and hedgehogs have arrived being founded everywhere
Some too small and weak to survive winter and others simply collapsed found lifeless with injuries, live maggots, fly strike and blood
One poorly female has given birth and there could be another ?
We are now desperate for your help
Newspapers are not lasting long with so many to clean daily plus our foster carers also need newspapers too
Funds are very low sadly

This little one arrived yesterday only 300 grams
Had to have 3 baths to remove the live maggots, there were so many you can see in the video how many tiny live maggots had hatched
A dreadful bite injury from a dog sadly, found on the path in duxbury woods, not moving and no wonder!!
Absolutely devastating state I'll keep you posted
It took me hours to treat this one hoglet and we have close to 60 now on site and that's with more releases
Thankyou ❤️ as always for your kindness and generosity and your support for the rescue
We rely on public donations and do as much fundraising as we can to keep the rescue supplies healthy, but when funds are low I'm afraid we have to ask for your help because we keep helping as many hoglets and hedgehogs as we can
Saying no to taking more in!!!! No rescue, including us, wants to refuse helping these beautiful hedgehogs but the reality is we can't do it without vital supplies of food, newspapers, medication, kitchen rolls, kitten biscuits and much more

I just wanted to say Thankyou ❤️
To all our Local hedgehog rescues
The work is absolutely incredible
The hours are long
The funds we raise and are donated don't last long
The number of poorly , injured, abandoned, hoglets and hedgehogs we all receive daily/weekly is phenomenal
We all struggle to cope, sometimes, with the work load, the lack of food, lack of volunteers, funds in the bank, medication, vet bills, newspapers , room to accommodate them,??? When all hutches and cages are full of new arrivals
large boxes for poorly new arrivals, heat mats,
Small water dishes, kitchen rolls, kitten biscuits, cleaning supplies, hand towels,
Weighing scales, batteries, med notes/ sheets, printing papers, plastic envelopes to secure hedgehogs history and meds etc
And compassion for all hedgehog rescues is very important
Busy from morning until evening 7 days a week
Busy 365 days of the year!!!
Too busy to find enough time to relax
Too busy to answer every call immediately or voice message or text or messenger message
Trying to organise fundraising events to keep the rescue well supplied with food
We've released over 50 healthy beautiful hedgehogs over the last couple of months and hopefully another 20 will be ready to be set free next week pending full health checks??
And more and more still arrive
We do our best to help when and if we can
Exceptionally busy time for all rescues at the moment with autumn juveniles needing help so please be respectful of the work we all do and the hours we work, trying very hard to save these beautiful incredible declining hedgehogs and hoglets ❤️
I can now only stand up and work upright for no longer than 30/40 minutes at the moment, sadly, due to my hip pain and discomfort
I can't thank my volunteers enough for their support but when volunteers are unable to help at the rescue I'm afraid I struggle to get through the day and I'm not on my own with that

We've managed to purchase very much needed new hutches x 3 so far
We are desperate for more new hutches to house our youngsters over winter
We've got our Christmas fayre coming up in November, date to be confirmed

I won't begin to tell you how upsetting and stressful this has been for me personally and the rescue so we definitely have some funds to make up to get us through the winter period

So sorry I've been quiet but I can't explain how busy we have been
So many poorly hoglets arriving daily as well.as poorly injured hedgehogs
We've released as many as were healthy enough and more have arrived
Volunteers on holiday or looking after grandchildren so we've been very short of help
But we carry on
