Thankyou ❤️ for the rain, what an absolute joy
This will certainly help our trees and hedgerows and wildlife and insects
What a joy to see and feel the rain
I've watered my garden as often as I can, kept my bird baths clean daily and my hedgehogs get fresh water every night
Fresh food in my feeding stations too
The rain is truly appreciated
Please keep your water fresh and avoid strimmers or check for hedgehogs and wildlife before you switch on a power tool!!! They really are the worst machines for hurting hedgehogs'
Another arrived today with strimmer injuries to his neck
I bathed, cleaned his wound, gave pain relief, removed small live maggots and a few blue bottles,
Gave fluids and painkillers and antibiotics
Put him on a heat source as he wasn't warm
He was comfortable and tried to eat a little
Royal canin recovery food and take a drink
I gave him more fluids and fed him a little and applied honey to his wound
Sadly he passed away over night
But he was warm , clean and hydrated and certainly out of pain 💞
I was up until 2 am to try to help this innocent young male hedgehog who was "yet another" human victim of a strimmer injury

Gardens need to be wildlife friendly???
I can't even put my bum out without checking for spiders and worms
Another young hoglet lost it's precious life full of roundworm and that's a nasty parasite to treat
Another 8 have arrived at the rescue so we are extremely busy trying to save these tiny hoglets
I'll sort photos later in the week I've just not had a chance
Thankyou ❤️ for your amazing support as always ❤️
Really hope we get more rain ☔ 🌧️ 🌧️ 🌧️
Our trees really need it ❤️

Hannah and Harper arrived at 140 grams.
Desperate rescue, unfortunately mummy was so very stressed, as they were taken from a shed and brought to the rescue in an open carrier with no bedding.
Mummy was coughing and struggling with her 2 babies. 💔
It took me 3 hours to settle them all and mummy was terrified and poorly. 💔
Eventually she settled and the hoglets stopped screaming for her and she let them suckle from her.
A few days later mummy couldn't cope as she was so unwell and the hoglets were screaming, peeping, desperate for mum, desperate for food from mum. She didn't want to nurture them sadly and that was a tough decision, but the right decision.
I had to separate them and hand rear the hoglets.
Mummy settled once separated and treated for lungworm, and seemed happier on her own.
She has already been released, hopefully well enough to breed again. ❤️
As for the 2 hoglets, I then had to hand rear them both, feeding them every 3 hours and treating them for lungworm, plus sub cu fluids.
Both now in foster care before release at Rigbys retreat. ❤️
Loving their freedom and especially their food.
Both are sleeping separately now, despite being huddled together at the rescue while on medication.

Our foster hedgehog Riley. ❤️
Seriously injured (mouth, jaw and body injuries) is in foster care with Barbara.
Enjoying a little tlc time.
Being closely monitored but from a distance.
She is one of the most beautiful hedgehogs I've had the pleasure to help.
Sadly with such serious injuries to her mouth, jaw and body, I didn't think she would survive.
But here she is ❤️ after so much help with baths to heal her injuries and gentle feeding, because of her mouth injuries
she can only eat royal canin recovery food (because it's easy to eat). We think she will be a permanent foster care hedgehog???? Because of the severity of her injuries to her mouth and jaw.
She's in recovery now I'm happy to say, having amazing foster carers to monitor our poorly hedgehogs is absolutely vital.
They can observe and monitor their behaviour, weight, appetite and demeanor.
It helps the hedgehog (who really was close to passing away) gain confidence and with support feeding and in a natural habitat they can really thrive. ❤️
She's so beautiful and deserves to be set free but I'm still not convinced she is 100% recovered.
Thank you Barbara for letting our lovely Riley have some quality time, after she's experienced such devastating injuries, in your garden.

THANKYOU ❤️ everyone!
We got delivery of newspapers.
With 47 on site plus foster carers needing newspapers daily you have really helped.
Thankyou ❤️
With 22 critical care hoglets and hedgehogs currently on site it's a tough day every day trying to save their precious 💞💞💞💞 lives.
Injured hoglets need bathing and cleaning daily, sub cu fluids x 3/4 times daily, medication and feeding x 3/4/5 times daily as well as pain relief.
I'm sorry I missed a couple of calls today, who I've now messaged, it's just busy at the rescue all the time.
The heat isn't helping our poorly hoglets and hedgehogs or my team of volunteers.
Fans are on constantly, windows and doors are open.
With releasing 7 healthy hedgehogs back to the wild we had to thoroughly clean out the hutches, let them dry to prepare for another 7 to move out, which we did today.
Pending releases for next week could be another 5 or 6??? Fingers crossed on health checks next Monday.
All new arrival hoglets are doing ok. Not great, but it takes time to work through their dehydration and parasite burdens, as well as injuries that need cleaning and addressing daily.
I've watered as much of my garden as I can keeping it moist for my night visitors.
Feeding stations all full.
Bird baths all cleaned and full.
Bird feeders all cleaned and full for early morning visitors.
Please look after your wildlife day and night.
This weather isn't helping our wildlife but your support really will help them.
Kitten biscuits out for my hedgehog visitors and fresh water.
Foster carers are looking after a few of our poorly, struggling hedgehogs.
I'll show you some wonderful videos later in the week.
Work continues to help these precious youngsters severely injured and very unwell.
❤️

The rescue is absolutely full of poorly hoglets all severely dehydrated with nasty injuries these hoglets are far too small to be out alone
They really need daily treatment and fluids, baths and medication to treat parasite burdens
Please remember to leave fresh water out every night
These temperatures are having a negative affect on our wildlife
They are struggling to forage with the ground so dry and hard, please water an area of your garden to allow our hedgehogs to dig and wet the soil
5 times I've had to refill my bird baths today as every bird needed to bath ❤️
Desperate for newspapers, as it's holiday season, if you do have any please drop off at the rescue
Also running out of the following supplies
Hibiscrub
Activon tube honey
Australian purifying tea tree cream
Thankyou ❤️ to everyone who has managed to drop off supplies
Very much appreciated ❤️
Very busy everyday, sorry for the lack of posts
Please look after our wildlife it's very tough out there for them in this heat
More updates in a few days

THANKYOU ❤️ to everyone who has supported the rescue as well as our tombola events and the Chorley flower show last weekend
We raised over £2,000 which was incredibly generous and helpful for the rescue especially as we are receiving more and more small, young, injured, dehydrated and abandoned hoglets at the moment
Over 21 new arrivals over the last few day's which is pretty heart wrenching and hard work
A quick update on me
My hip replacement operation was cancelled due to my surgeon being unwell
I'm so sorry she is poorly I wish her a speedy recovery
The rescue closed to allow me to prepare
We tidied and got my home in order
We fostered out hedgehogs' so my work load was reduced
Many thanks to all rescues who took in extra poorly hoglets and hedgehogs to help.me reduce my workload especially Mark Allison and Kirsty Pentland Allison
I'm now waiting?
I had to see another surgeon who may help me get my operation?
I'm still waiting to hear so now I'm in limbo
I'm still not 100% on my feet as my hip is so painful but I'm not going to stop helping when and where I can
I could get a call anytime???? But until that happens the rescue, my volunteers and me will help when and where we can
Obviously a very busy week and a very stressful week as I'm still unsure what's going to happen and when?????
Sorry I've been quiet but I had mentally and emotionally prepared for the operation but now I have to wait???
Anyway
A beautiful female found by one of my volunteers last night was sadly put to sleep this afternoon due to an open fracture on her front leg
Thankyou ❤️ Chorley vets for helping her
Another sadly died after arriving a few days ago due to a heavy parasite burden
100 grams hoglets found alone needing alot of feeds and fluids and attention 6/7 times daily
Serious strimmer Injured hedgehogs still arriving daily , needing treatment, cleaning of wounds, warmth and fluids, pain relief , antibiotics
I'm happy to say they are responding well to treatment ❤️
THANKYOU ❤️ to my volunteers and foster carers who are working hard to keep the rescue going as I'm a little slow on my feet and taking care of some of our pending release hedgehogs
7 more releases this week
Hopefully we can move more into the garage over the weekend and free up more space for new arrivals
I'll update you more over the weekend with more stories as I've got a few to feed now as well as administer fluids
PLEASE keep putting out fresh water and kitten biscuits for your wild hedgehog and wildlife
Still more hot weather is forecast, sadly, and so many hoglets and hedgehogs are arriving absolutely emaciated, collapsed and desperate for help
Water really is a life saver
Please put fresh water out, for your night visitors, before you go to bed tonight
Overall a very tough few weeks for all our hedgehogs and rescues
Levacide injectable medication ( for lungworm treatment) im struggling to get hold of if any rescues can help please?
Thanks everyone for your lovely messages but sadly everything hasn't gone to plan but nothing I can do about it now except carry on until I have more information
Thankyou ❤️

The donation basket is back at Tesco! 😁

Thanks to the team at Tesco Extra Euxton for supporting us in this way. The basket had been used to raise donations for Derian House last month, but now it's back. ❤

We have really missed it recently and your donations of cat food, kitchen rolls and large big bags are a massive boost to us. Thank you to everyone who drops something in xx
