As a carer, you deserve to look after yourself, too.

But we know that can sometimes be easier said than done when you’re balancing a caring role with the demands of daily life.

There are no easy answers, but it’s important to try and take time for yourself, even if it’s in small ways – like making the most of your breaks at work or listening to music on your daily commute.

It can also help to lean on friends and family, whether that’s asking them to step in so you can take a break, or chatting to someone who understands what you’re going through and can really listen.

And if you’re struggling, speak to your GP. Carers can often reach a crisis point before they realise that they’ve been struggling for a while in their role. But you don’t need to reach breaking point to ask for help, like counselling or extra support services.

Getting help and support before you think you need it is one way to prepare for the future. Some services have waiting lists, so it may be reassuring to know that you have a plan in place.

And if you need support or advice, we’re here for you too. Just give our Dementia Support Line a call on 0333 150 3456.

As another busy week comes to a close, we wanted to take a moment to reflect and simply say thank you.

The past seven days have once again shown the power of community. Last weekend alone, the Foundation was proud to support St Catherine’s Hospice at their Yellow Day Garden Fete and attend Picnic in the Park at Astley Park alongside Victor Magpie, helping to engage with local residents and celebrate everything that makes our communities special. Throughout the week, we then continued delivering sessions and activities for people of all ages across Chorley and beyond.

From older persons groups and friendship sessions to Junior Magpies, walking football, Blokes United and Growing Armed Forces Veterans provision, every conversation, every smile and every opportunity created through the Foundation represents a positive impact on somebody’s life.

None of this happens by accident.

It happens because of the incredible network of people and organisations who support the Foundation every day. Our participants, volunteers, trustees, funders, partners and supporters all play a vital role in helping us improve the mental, physical and emotional wellbeing of local people.

To our volunteers, thank you. Whether you are leading a session, making brews, setting up chairs, offering encouragement or simply being there to listen, your contribution is invaluable. The impact you have on people’s lives is far greater than you may ever realise.

Thank you to our funders, including the National League Trust The National Lottery and Jigsaw Homes North, whose support enables us to continue delivering opportunities and tackling social isolation across our communities.

We would also like to thank our partners, including Chorley Council Lancashire Football Association Inspire Youth Zone Chorley and the many organisations that work alongside us throughout the year.

A special thank you goes to Chorley Football Club. The Foundation is incredibly proud of its connection to the Club, and we are grateful for the continued support of the directors, staff, players, volunteers and everyone behind the scenes who champions the work we do within the community.

We would also like to recognise our Board of Trustees, led by Darren Jenkinson, whose leadership, guidance and commitment has guided us to where we are and continues to help steer the Foundation forward.

Community is not built by one person or one organisation. It is built through people working together with a shared purpose. Every volunteer hour, every partnership, every donation, every conversation and every act of kindness contributes to something bigger than all of us.

To everyone who has played a part this week, and to those who continue to support us throughout the year, thank you. Together, you are helping us touch lives across generations and create stronger, healthier and more connected communities.

This Carers Week, we’re thinking about the people who don’t always call themselves carers…

You might be helping a parent, supporting a partner, checking in on a neighbour, or looking after someone in your family. It might not feel like a role - it’s just part of your life.

But it matters.

So many unpaid carers don’t realise that support is out there for them. And recognising that you are a carer can be the first step towards getting the help you deserve - including better support from services like your GP and access to dedicated support within your community.

If this sounds like you, or someone you know, you’re not alone. Find out more here: n-compass.org.uk/carers.

Let’s start by recognising carers in our communities. 💙

"I didn't realise I could ask for help." - Something we hear from family carers time and time again.

Many unpaid carers spend months putting the needs of loved ones first, often managing everything alone until they reach breaking point. But support doesn't have to wait until you're exhausted.

This , we're encouraging carers across West Lancashire and Chorley to remember that asking for help is a strength, not a weakness.

At Home Instead West Lancashire & Chorley, we provide compassionate home care, respite care, and personalised support that can help ease the pressure and give family carers the time and space they need to look after themselves too.

Together, let's build more carer-friendly communities where no one feels they have to cope alone 💚
