We have commited ourselves to a program of neutering and micro-chipping the animals in our care and finding them suitable forever homes. We look to provide advice and support to owners of both companion and working ferrets and strive to improve public knowledge of ferrets. And a place to share the joys of ferret companionship, photos of your ferrets are allways wellcome!!! For enquires about rehom

*If you would like the visit the Essex Ferret Welfare Society*

We welcome people to come and see the ferrets looking for long term homes. Please call us first though to make sure it is a suitable time, and to get directions. By far the best way to contact is by phone asking for Wendy and Alan Brett. Our number is 01277 364115. If we aren’t in please feel free to leave a message.

We will be at the Gibberd Garden Beer Festival on Father's Day! 21st June. We'd like to do some ferret racing but most of current ferrets are busy raising kits.
Do have the fastest ferret? Ferrets must be 5 months old minimum.
Would you like to come along and talk about your ferrets for a whole day, to people who are genuinely interested 🥰
Meet us at 10.30 -11am on the day, it really helps if you would drop us a message and let us know you will be attending and if you need a cage set up.

Step into a world where art and nature intertwine. Our 2026 season begins on Wednesday 1 April. Enjoy the changing colours of the landscape with us throughout the year. We are open every Wednesday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday until the end of October, 2026. Check below for the events and family a...

There are some things you don't find out about ferrets until you live with them.
So when I bought a new sofa this weekend the first thing I did was flip it upside down and attempt to 'proof' it.
Sounds funny but if ferrets get into it, I can't get them out.
What are the things that you've had to proof to protect your fuzzies as well as your stuff?

Meet Creed. He was handed in to us last Sunday. Obvious mobility issues, he was immediately booked in with our vet. Xray and scans show nothing broken, so he is on pain meds and anti-imflammatories. A program of good rich meat to build bone strength and we will let you know how he gets on.
One of the hardest things is not knowing the full history of our ferrets. Thankfully Creed was rescued by loving people, he was brought to us to get the treatment that he needs.

Meet Peggy, Pam and Irene.
3 jills in season, dumped in a park. Likely because of the significant cost of implants. These ladies came to us new years eve because they were found by someone who knew of us. We will get them out of season with a vhob and then get them all spayed.
They will be available for adoption once that is done.
