Thrive North Oxfordshire

Thrive North Oxfordshire ‘THRIVE’ is a charity based in Chipping Norton in OX7, aiming to support local children living in desperate circumstances.

THRIVE was formed in 2016 by a small group of local women after meeting the founders of an organisation called, ‘Community Awareness’, based in Gloucestershire. This organisation works to raise awareness of and offer support to local children living below the poverty line. After speaking with this group and hearing the shocking cases that they have been able to assist with in Gloucestershire, ‘Thr

ive’ was formed so that a similar group could help support desperate children in the North Oxfordshire area. The main objective of ‘Thrive’ is raising funds which are then used to provide practical support to these children of struggling families in North Oxfordshire who, for whatever reason, have a genuine, urgent need. Usually this need would be for a specific basic item such as toiletries, school uniform, a bed to sleep on, basic clothing (that most of us take for granted) or a rug to cover a bare floor following a sudden home move.

‘Thrive’ is in touch with partnership schools’ Parent Support Advisors and Chipping Norton Health Visitors. As the group becomes more established and funds grow, the aim is to extend the contact to include local nursery school leaders, health visitors, the food bank, women’s refuges, and the children’s centres. The staff in these roles can call on Thrive when they have a specific urgent request - they can request items for the children and Thrive can provide it. Most importantly Thrive will remain invisible to those families it supports, respecting the pride of those that the organisation has been able to help.

We would like to share the love with all our supporters this Valentines Day. Your help, in all its forms, allows us to do the work we do in the OX7 community. In 2025, you allowed us to support over 1,200 local children and teens with a diverse range of essentials. Our biggest spend is in educational activities which includes sports and music coaching and activities and residential trips for Year 6 students, none of which would happen without help from all of us.

Last year, you helped us to help over 150 students with school uniform and shoes. Not only does this help with the provision of essentials needed for school, it frees up a tight budget that would otherwise have to stretch to around £100 per child to kit them out for school.

Our community also helped us to provide food vouchers to over 250 people. Many of these, we sent out as part of our winter campaign to help families struggling to choose between keeping children warm or fed.

From coins in coin jars to regular direct debits and one-off grant payments, to support for our events, every penny is thoughtfully spent on those in genuine need in the OX7 area. Thank you.

As we reach the end of Children’s Mental Health Week 2026, we’d like to highlight the support we’ve given children and young people in the OX7 area over the past year. During 2025, we helped nearly 100 children and young people.

Sometimes, it’s the little things that make a big difference to young people struggling with anxiety and low mood. We work with the pastoral care team at local schools to provide craft equipment and journaling items that can help pupils to relax, feel engaged and just chat.

We have paid for mindfulness sessions for preschool and primary age children to help with transition to the next stage of their schooling. Having the tools to deal with big emotions can stand youngsters in good stead when they are facing stressful situations.

Across the board, we listen to the needs of our OX7 community and move swiftly to provide what is needed. We couldn’t do it without our amazing network of front line staff supporting their young students through difficult times. Thank you to them for reaching out to us and to all our wonderful donors for their ongoing support that allows us to provide the necessary help..

This week is children’s mental health week with the theme “This is my space”, incorporating ideas around a sense of belonging. Small things can help bring a group together to feel everyone is included and we recently helped the team in the Nurture Room at our local secondary school with their work on this by supplying activity books, crayons and some sweet treats for a group exercise.

We love hearing from our community, finding out how we’ve been able to help so we were delighted when one of our school-based contacts reached out with this feedback.

January is a super-busy month for the Thrive OX7 team as we reach out to our network of caring professionals in the community to offer our help to families struggling with winter fuel and food bills. During January and February, we expect to be supporting over 200 local people with food vouchers.

We have also received a number of requests for alarm clocks to help young people start their day on time and arrive promptly for school. We are told there have already been some great results from this simple solution.

We have also helped with furniture for young peoples’ rooms by buying a bed to replace a broken one and for a different family, a wardrobe to help with storage.

School uniform and shoes remain a constant need for growing families and we have been able to ensure youngsters living through hardship have the clothing and footwear they need to feel on an equal footing with their classmates.

As ever, we are incredibly grateful to our supporters who help us to be able to provide consistent support to those in OX7 who are in the greatest need. Thank you.

During 2025, Thrive OX7 provided school uniforms and shoes to 140 children and teens in the area of Chipping Norton and surrounding Oxfordshire villages. We reached out to schools and pre-schools and worked with local agencies such as The Branch Trust to support families in need, when the cost of uniform for the children is just too much for a tight budget.

One of the beliefs that the Thrive team holds dear is that education offers a way out of the low income trap and if we can support a young person along their path by supporting their self-esteem with uniform that is on a par with their peers then we’ve achieved our aim.

We will be offering the same support in 2026. If you would like to support the work of a small, grass-roots charity, run entirely by volunteers and with no infrastructure overheads, just follow the link in the bio or from our website to donate.

We could not have provided this level of support without the players of the National Lottery. Thank you.

The team at Thrive OX7 would like to wish everyone a happy and Peaceful New Year. Without all our wonderful local and not so local friends, followers and supporters, we simply couldn’t do what we do.

From collecting coins in jars to regular donations to sponsoring events, donating raffle prizes and gifting to goody bags, we are so grateful for all you do.

As a small charity operating solely in the OX7 area of Oxfordshire, we value every donation in all shapes and sizes. You enable us to help children and young people in our area who are struggling through crisis and hardship. We have seen demand for our support increase year on year but we’re ready to continue to provide much-needed help throughout 2026 and beyond.

Thank you so much for your continued commitment to us. The whole team sends our very best wishes for 2026.

Without our wonderful supporters and collaborators, we simply could not do what we do to support local families in desperate need. We are so grateful for all your support in all its forms.

Thank you.

The wonderful villagers of South Newington Oxfordshire have again created some dazzling displays for their annual Advent Windows event in aid of Thrive OX7. A new window in the village is revealed on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays during December and donations are made by those enjoying them. The event opened with the heart wreath in the church and continued with a Christmas tree, a church scene and another big heart in a barn. Do visit if you get the chance.

A big thank you to the organisers, the creatives and the donors for making this event so beautiful and for supporting Thrive OX7. If you would like to make a donation this festive season to support our work with families in need over the winter period, simply follow the link in our bio or visit our webpage www.thrive-ox7.org and tap the Donate button.

The heroic OddSingers turned out on two rainy evenings in December to sing carols in the Oddingtons in aid of local causes including Thrive OX7. Their repertoire included all of the festive favourites and brought some cheery Christmas vibes to the dark nights.

A big thanks to all the brave souls who ventured out in spite of the weather and raised money for community charities. We are so grateful for the support of local groups who fundraise for us. We can pledge to spend every penny raised on supporting local children and teens surviving poverty and hardship. Over the coming winter months, this support will be needed more than ever as families face difficult choices between keeping warm and putting food on the table.

If you would like to make a donation to Thrive OX7, follow the link in our bio or go to our website and simply click the Donate button at www.thrive-ox7.org.

Thank you.
