Mickleton Against Inappropriate Development

Mickleton Against Inappropriate Development Changes made by the Labour Government increased the housing target in the district from about 500 to over 1000 homes each year.

This has made some important local planning rules outdated.........................

I see MAID's Petition has reached 17000. It shows the depth of feeling against this housing madness that there is throughout the Country.
We see Brookworth homes are advertising for their new development behind the Shepherds Fold houses and are having archaeology diggings carried out. They must be confident of getting Planning Approval this time. I wonder what they know that CDC Councillors do not seem to. Interesting this - Why should Brookworth know more about our Village than we do, or even our Councillors do.
You still have time to email your Councillors before they meet tomorrow to make their final decision . We do not expect a decision in our favour though it will be interesting to hear our Councillors speak. After tomorrow we start again!!!

MAID NEW MESSAGE

The Notes from last week's Meeting are now available on www.mickletonaid.co.uk and can be found under CDC Regulation 19.

The Friday after the Meeting CDC added over 5000 pages of reports and plans to Regulation 19 expecting us and councillors to have read these by the Overview & Scutiny Committee this Monday. Our Chairman asked several questions at this meeting but was stonewalled by the Committee who have passed the Regulation 19 plan onto the Cabinet, then have a full Council Meeting which will pass the plan on 12th August before 'consultation'. MAID are going through the 5000 pages and will be commenting in due course. Our first impression is that they have been hastily compiled and are riven with factual and contradictory errors. Interesting to note that the new surgery in Chipping, often heralded as a benefit for Mickleton, is not scheduled to be built until 2038.

Many thanks to all of you who have written to the CDC councillors, and who have sent us their replies. The main response is 'We are terribly sorry for Mickleton but we had no option". Some, though, are wavering, so keep up the pressure.

This Plan is wrong in every way. Mickleton, Moreton, Driffield and Fairford gave been targeted to take the bulk of these houses. Fortunately Builders will only build if they can sell!

Thank you to everyone who came to the Meeting last night. We do hope you went home more informed on what actions we will be taking over the next few weeks to try and deflect this absurd Housing Plan which has so unfairly targeted Mickleton.
We will be putting a copy of the Minutes of this Meeting on our website www.mickletonaid.co.uk over the weekend.
Already on our website are the emails of all the CDC Councillors for you to email, and a few ideas on what you might say to them. Please email them and make them know of the depth of feeling in our Village.

Thank you to everyone who managed to deliver over 900 leaflets to Mickleton over the last 24 hours. The dense of 'anger and confusion' on the streets was palpable.

Quick reminder of meeting tonight at the Hall at 7 pm. Let us get constructive and work out ways of stopping this outrage.

Have a look at our web page www.mickletonaid.co.uk

There is a new heading there 'CDC Regulation 19'. Here we have a list of Councillors to email, a list of suggestions you could use in your email and a copy of the first MAID email sent to councillors when we heard the news. PLEASE EMAIL THEM AND SHOW OUR ANGER

Forgive the poor images. These are the maps you can find on the CDC papers for Regulation 19. The first shows the 1200. The last three extra areas they are also suggesting for future housing. Apparently they think Furrow Way is now perfectly suitable as an entrance. Note the number of roads which will now flow into Stratford Road. ALL THIS WITHOUT CONSULTATION AND NEVER REVEALED TO US UNTIL LAST FRIDAY

MAID will be leafleting the village in the next couple of days endeavouring to get to everyone with details of our Meeting at 7 pm on Thursday at the Village Hall to discuss our response to the CDC Housing Plan which depending on which part of the1800 page document you read puts between 1400 and 1700 new houses in Mickleton.

The earliest we will probably see building activity is 2029 so we have a little more time to enjoy our countryside before it is lost for ever.

MAID has several thoughts on the way forward. We feel that the CDC has manoevered the figure of houses for Mickleton without giving us any opportunity to challenge them. We will report again when we have a plan and hope you will all fully support our efforts for this VILLAGE we call with pride MICKLETON

Words from our Chairman Andy Crump reacting to the Regulation 19 proposals for CDC's revised Local Plan.

"This is our worst nightmare and indicates that CDC has ignored the stark reality that our village simply cannot accommodate what amounts to more than a 100 per cent expansion of a village that has already grown significantly since 2015. I have yet to study the new Local Plan in depth and my present comments relate to the figure of 1238 which is more than double the previous indicative total. How on earth has Mickleton fallen under the strategic growth umbrella when it is one of the worst performing settlements in terms of its infrastructure? The village is a major exporter of workers, has very limited public transport and retail facilities, and requires long journeys to access A&E hospital services. Traffic through the village is already excessive and will clearly intensify under the present CDC proposals. The village will be transformed from a pleasant rural community into a commuter dormitory of sprawling urbanising housing estates.Add development at Long Marston and the northern gateway to Cotswolds will be annihilated. What a legacy will be left by CDC in its last two years. Rest assured MAID will have plenty to say about this in coming weeks."

MAID are holding a Meeting at Village Hall on Thursday 30th July at 7 pm. Come and help us decide on the next steps

Well we are now getting into a most interesting period when all might change.
The Cotswold District Council will disappear, though there is no clear picture on what will replace it, though elections are due in 2027, presumably for our new 'improved' unitary Council. Where that will leave your Parish Council is unclear.
In the meantime the CDC still is working to produce a new Housing Plan, to try 'they say' to lock in the figures the Government wants built and prevent unwanted Planning Applications. That boat sailed months ago!
Please pressure your councillors to hold back on any new Plan until we know what Burnham wants to do. The current Government Plan is in tatters, particularly when you look at 'affordable' housing for locals.
Our petition has now received over 15000 signatures, though to our surprise only 600 odd come from the Cotswolds. You may not think this housing push effects you, but wait until we have all the construction traffic hammering on our roads, with all the dust and noise that will entail for several years. It will be harder to get Doctor appointments, Emergency Services support, school places. Our standard of life will be worse. Come on Cotswolds. Support the petition

MAID are pleased to say our Petition has now over 14000 signatures from all over the Country as more and more communities react to this assault on our Countryside.

It seems too that councillors up and down the country are starting to realize that this is an issue for the people they represent, and that they should represent their view (after all it could ve a vote winning issue!). This does not seem to apply to the Cotswold District Council who continue to pass dubious applications yet tell us they are keen to leave a 'legacy' behind them.

We would ask you all to contact your District Councillors and tell them enough is enough Signs are Burnham has his own Housing ideas as the current Government policy has failed dismally. Tell them to stop discussion on a new Housing Plan until Burnham speaks! If you don't your legacy will be empty new houses and abandoned estates scouring our countryside. We need a return to a considered local view of our true housing needs for the future with the infrastructure in place to service them.
