Waste Not Want Not We are a charity based in Chippenham, Wiltshire that collects unwanted furniture and white goods to pass on at affordable prices to low income households.

Our flagship programme Fresh Start helps people in crisis turn an empty property into a home. Registered charity that collects unwanted furniture and household goods to pass on at affordable prices to people on low income. We also provide work experience and volunteering opportunities
to our local community.

🌟 Support Waste Not Want Not through the new Wiltshire Community Lottery!

🚨 The first draw is this Saturday, 6 June! 🚨

By playing the Wiltshire Community Lottery and choosing Waste Not Want Not as your good cause, you'll be helping people across North Wiltshire on low incomes access affordable furniture, while also supporting those rebuilding their lives after homelessness or domestic abuse. Your support helps the environment too, by giving unwanted items a second life and reducing waste.

Every ticket helps us provide furniture, household essentials, and practical support while reducing waste through reuse.

Our focus today during is Paul who is an avid volunteer!

Not only does he support us 3 days a week, but he also volunteers at his local church.

“I enjoy helping people and being part of the Waste Not Want Not team and they are a good team! I do lots of things, from cleaning cookers and fridges, helping customers to load their car with items they have brought from us, to cleaning the windows and the CCTV cameras making sure there are no cobwebs”, explains Paul “I also take care of the outside space and get rid of weeds, so the area looks nice”.

Charity Manager Annalisa reflects “Paul has been volunteering with us for over four and a half years and during this time he has volunteered for over 4162 hrs! That is such an incredible achievement, well done and thank you Paul!”

As a small charity with only four members of staff, three of whom are part time, Waste Not Want Not relays on our team of volunteers to help our showroom run smoothly. We currently have seven volunteers and are looking to recruit a Community Engagement Volunteer. We continue to celebrate Volunteers' Week and today spotlight is on Michael.

Michael has been volunteering with us since January 2022 and can be found supporting our customers, answering the phone, and taking payments 2 days a week.

“Volunteering is a really nice thing to do and Waste Not Want Not is different from other charities. I previously volunteered elsewhere for eight years but then the shop closed so I came here. I was very nervous as it was all new and didn’t know anyone but over time I settled down and developed new skills and my confidence has increased lots,” reflects Michael. “I enjoy interacting with people, when I am on the shop floor, I talk to customers about the donations we receive. I also answer the phone and book in collections of donated goods. I get to see the full customer experience which makes me feel part of the Waste Not Want Not team.”

Shop Supervisor Julie, (who also started with us as a volunteer many years ago), adds “Michael is a joy to work with, we couldn’t be without him. He always goes above and beyond to help us out, including volunteering in the showroom on the 1st Saturday of each month when we open for those customers who can’t visit us during the working week”.
