Views of the recently remodeled promenade in La Fleche during the twinning visit in April 2026. The project has been somewhat controversial in view of the cost but it certainly was a most pleasant place to be in the superb weather experienced during our visit.

Our twinning visit to La Fleche commenced late afternoon on Friday 3rd April 2026 when we met our hosts and attended a reception at the town hall. Many had travelled overnight through stormy weather but for the three main days of our visit it was fine and sunny and surprisingly warm for early April. La Fleche lies in the south of the department of Sarthe, an area equivalent to a larger English county, named after the river that flows gently through it (as well as La Loire that flows through La Fleche). On the Saturday we travelled to the north west of Sarthe to the town of Fresnay-sur-Sarthe, admiring the pleasant rolling country and historic towns and villages on the way. We were also able to visit other towns nearby bordering on Mayenne department and enjoy the countryside which is attractive for tourism and is in some way comparable to the Cotswolds with steep hills (even known as Alpes there) and deep valleys.

The evening reception for Chippenham twinners in La Fleche held on 2nd April 2026 in the Printania Hall was attended by the town's new mayor Romain Le Lemoigne (Rassemblement National), the young man on the right in the photo below.

This spring 2026 has seen elections for the Mayor in both our twin towns. We are very pleased to be able to congratulate Roland Eichmann in Friedberg on his re-election and Romain Lemoigne, candidate of the RN party in la Flèche on his election, in both cases after a run-off having not quite achieved 50% or more in the first round. We look forward to continued work with them both.

Chippenham Twinning Association's Christmas meal was held at La Flambé Restaurant, Sutton Benger on 25th November 2025. Excellent food, substantial helpings and good service. Fine surroundings too. The building dating from 1727 was the home of Quaker John Fry and his wife Mary Storrs.
