💙 Being a Carer Is More Than Just a Job

Being a carer is so much more than a job.

It’s holding someone’s hand when they’re frightened.
It’s sitting quietly beside someone who doesn’t have the words.
It’s remembering the little things that make someone smile.
It’s listening to the same story for the tenth time — and still making them feel heard.

It’s celebrating birthdays, sharing laughter, wiping away tears and offering comfort when someone needs it most.

It’s seeing the person behind the care plan, the diagnosis or the daily routine.

Being a carer means becoming part of someone’s life, even if only for a short chapter. You become a familiar face, a trusted voice and sometimes a source of comfort when family can’t be there.

You may go home at the end of your shift and think you’ve simply done your job…

But to the person you cared for, you may have made their whole day better.

That’s why caring is more than just a job.

It’s a privilege. It’s a responsibility. It’s kindness in action.

And every single day, carers make a difference. 💙

Keeping our knowledge and skills up to date is so important, helping our staff feel confident and prepared to respond should an emergency arise.

Review: (Daughter of Resident) published on 22 September 2026

When my mum was no longer safe at home, we looked for a home that would actually love her. And we found it. Middlefields House is unusual in this respect - because all the people who work there are deeply committed to the residents care and they deliver that with love.
It is spacious, beautifully clean and the food is delicious - but it's the love that you can't actually buy that makes it exceptional.
I have been able to sleep soundly over the last 15 months that mum has been a resident. Any issues are easily ironed out and she is thriving. I only wish she'd made the decision sooner, as her health has improved dramatically. Her household is a second family to her. And we can now be family instead of exhausted carers.
Every family member and friend who has visited mum has also remarked on the caring atmosphere. Our district nurses that attend mum also believe it to be the most loving and caring home in the vicinity. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Middlefields House.
