This week sees the official end of the Chalk, Cherries and Chairs Landscape Partnership, our five-year initiative dedicated to the conservation, restoration and celebration of the central Chilterns. 🪑🍒

We are really pleased to report that our independent evaluation said "the scheme has delivered a wide range of heritage activity that has met The National Lottery Heritage Fund approved purposes and in many instances exceeded what was intended at the outset".

Legacy was written into Chalk, Cherries and Chairs from the start – both for individual projects and for the scheme as a whole – and there are many areas where work established within the project will continue and be built upon over the years to come, like the central Chilterns Farmer Cluster, New Shoots, Tracking the Impact, and the Makers' Hub and Chair Network.

We are so proud of what we have achieved, and none of it would have been possible without the help of our supporters, funders and volunteers, so a huge thank you from the whole partnership and project team!

This past year, we've worked with Support Staffordshire to conduct research on making citizen science programmes in the Chilterns more accessible and inclusive.

This research involved talking to citizen science leads, an online workshop with people involved in citizen science projects and meeting the general public.

Thank you to all who contributed! We hope this research will be used to help get more people involved in their local landscape in the future.

Our wildlife projects have involved 164 farmers and landowners who have all done some amazing things for wildlife on their farms.

The Central Chilterns Farmer Cluster will be continuing – a great legacy for the project!

Ed Lacey said a highlight of the farmer cluster was the "competitiveness between the farmers in the cluster, all working to increase numbers in winter feeding - the enthusiasm around it was great”.

Chalk, Cherries and Chairs' awards count almost went from three to four last night!

CCC and Wycombe Museum were finalists in Buckinghamshire Culture's Bucks Sparks Awards for the Best Cultural Collaboration for the Chiltern Chairs Festival. 🪑

The chair festival raised awareness of the Chilterns' chair-making heritage, engaged local people, and fostered new partnerships. We may not have won, but we were honoured to be finalists among such stiff competition – including other partners of ours!

A monthly makers hub has been set up at Amersham Museum for local craft makers to network and socialise – a great legacy for Chalk, Cherries and Chair's heritage crafts projects.

Participants can meet at the museum, discuss what support they would like going forward and what different museums can offer, find out about potential projects and collaborations as well as enjoying ‘behind the scenes’ access to museums. ​
