in 1851, the Window Tax in Britain was abolished!
Introduced in 1696 under King William III, this tax was based on the number of windows in a house. It had a significant impact on architecture, leading to many bricked-up windows to avoid higher taxes. The tax was seen as a levy on "light and air," and its repeal marked the end of an era in property taxation.
💡 : The saying "daylight robbery" is popularly believed to originate with the window tax!💡
