Many thanks to all members of our West Sussex branch who will be working hard over the Christmas and New Year period to deliver essential public services. We wish all our members a happy and prosperous new year.

We also congratulate UNISON's new General Secretary Andrea Egan on her recent election and look forward to working with her in 2026 to help build a stronger and more democratic Union. We enclose here Andrea's recent article from The Guardian setting out her stall.

I have been appalled by Wes Streeting’s attacks on resident doctors. The destructive right wing of the Labour party should know that this is a new era, says the general secretary-elect of Unison, Andrea Egan

🚨 UNISON members, your ballot needs to be posted by this Saturday 22nd to be counted! 📮

The West Sussex Local Government branch has nominated *ANDREA EGAN* for General Secretary because Andrea:

1️⃣ Has a clear plan for successful action on Pay, ending the stagnation of the last fifteen years.
2️⃣ Will take the wage of a social worker, not the £181,000 package our current General Secretary receives. Andrea’s pay will go up when yours does.
3️⃣ Opposes UNISON’s subservience to Starmer’s Labour. UNISON members will come first, not the Labour Party.
4️⃣ Will free up and resource branches so we can better support you, giving you access to legal advice when needed.
5️⃣ Has successfully led campaigns to defend Schools and Council terms and conditions.
