It’s never dull at Chew Chat!
Last weekend we swapped coffee mornings for the classroom with our Back to School lunch at Chew Magna Baptist Chapel. The day began with a rousing assembly, featuring singing, announcements and the rules of the day - most importantly, no running in the corridors (even if you still can!).
Our very own “Headmistress” took charge, delivering lessons in history, geography, biology, and elocution. House points were awarded for the right answers, and a rather impressive cup stood ready for the top-performing house.
The pupils were, for the most part, remarkably well behaved — though there were a few whispers at the back and some suspiciously long trips to the “cloakroom.” Everyone looked the part in ties, blazers, and shorts — proof that school spirit never fades, even if our knees have!
School lunch was a far cry from the lumpy mash of yesteryear — delicious chicken and leek pie followed by apple sponge and custard. Gold stars all round for the kitchen team!
It was a close-run competition, but Mendip House came out on top. House Captain Barbara and Prefect Carol graciously accepted the trophy - and handed out Walnut Whips (remember them?) to their triumphant team. A top-class effort all round!
