On November 10th, I was invited to speak at Your Recovery, Your Community - Derbyshire County and honestly? I’ve only just stopped crying.
This was last of the LERO roadshows touring Derbyshire, showing what happens when people with lived experience lead the way.
I am full of fire. I am pumped. I am inspired.
Met absolute legends: Dot, Mark, Poppy, Col, Ellie from Recovery Connections. I was in awe.
🫶🏽If you’ve ever thought of starting a group or project and need help, DM me. LERO’s are a family. I will back you.

We’re planning a Christmas Party on Wednesday the 17th of December for the people we support! 🎅✨
There’ll be a free tombola, quiz, and bingo — and of course, a delicious Christmas dinner.

We’re looking for a little help to make the day extra special ❤️

Can you cover the cost of a meal for someone this Christmas? Just £4 provides a full dinner, drink, and dessert. Every bit of support helps us bring joy to those who need it most. 🌟

If you would like to donate, please use this link which takes you to our just giving page – please make sure you put the words ‘Christmas meal’ in the comments so we can allocate this money.

Love this, it can feel overwhelming at times and this great post from The Recovery Space - Langwith explains how to mute a page or group it feels like space is helpful. Thank you for sharing 🙏

Recovery can be overwhelming 😥
We get it.
Firstly I want to say a huge thank you to all our followers. You guys are The Recovery Space!

But, even if you are in recovery, an affected other or an interested community member - daily posts about addiction can be too much.
We post daily to try and tackle stigma and break barriers, but if your feed is full of triggering posts, please feel free to mute us.

The world of recovery is weird. Everyone’s journey is different, some need daily motivation and some of us need to be left alone.

So, whatever your journey I’ve attached an image on how to mute. But remember, if we are muted -
We are here in the background if you ever need us.

At the Your Recovery, Your Community - The Celebration Event we shared this video.

It recaps the projects journey, captures where we went, why we did it, and, what shaped every step of Your Recovery, Your Community.

People told us what recovery looks like in their place, and together we began shaping what *LEROs could be in Derbyshire.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, shared your ideas, trusted the process, and helped create something genuinely special.

*LEROs are Lived-Experience Recovery Organisations, led by and for people with lived experience of addiction and recovery.

Meet Kelly from 13 Bends Design

Kelly is Derbyshire local and she has been the sketch note artist for all of the Your Recovery, Your Community projects across Derbyshire - and she has been a vital part of our 7 month long work.

Kelly’s sketch notes are extraordinary, and she has a special talent in being able to capture the feeling, emotion and words of a whole (& large) rooms of people. That is not an easy thing, but anyone working will Kelly can have confidence in her capturing the big feelings, to the quietest of perspectives, all equally important.

Not only this, but Kelly is a true joy to work with: professional, dedicated and reliable, endless kind and a trusted partner. Please, if you are local (or otherwise), follow Kelly on 13 Bends Design, check out her work spanning sketch notes, graphic design, commissions and much more.

We owe a great deal of thanks to Kelly & she deserves such recognition of how important she has been to this community work and the difference she has made (& a big thanks for Kelly’s gift of those gorgeous custom Recovery Connections biscuits!)

Yesterday’s sold out Your Recovery, Your Community - The Celebration Event was pure magic. It was nothing short of incredible made so by the people who came.

Mark Stephenson & Ellie Brown shared the themes and perspectives drawn from across the project & (attempted)to keep time to an overwise jampacked event, and as per each event we were joined by the talented Kelly Sheldon, from 13 Bends Design, the projects sketch note artist.

There was laughter, connection, and inspiration in every conversation. We heard powerful stories from local people, Ben from The Recovery Space - Langwith, Craig, and David from Your Choices Matter, UK and Kelsey Family CIC - all who are very special people, and real examples of making recovery support available and accessible and demonstrating the power of lived-experience leadership.

We learned from each other, and the Lived-Experience Leadership Panel included the remarkable Dot, Poppy, Poppy and Col from
Recovery Connections who showed how walking alongside people in recovery journeys is what truly makes a difference.

Mark from York In Recovery CIC made the journey to Chesterfield and inspired hope, possibility and showed how resilience is such a big part of growing Lived-Experience Recovery Organistions.

A big thank you to the Derbyshire County Council Public Health Team, the folk at Phoenix Futures Derbyshire and Growing Recovery in Derbyshire.

From the very first local event to this final celebration, one thing has been clear - Derbyshire’s recovery community is alive, proud, and growing.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, supported this project throughout its journey, we simply couldn’t name everyone on this post but we see you and you are so valued).

To everyone who shared your experiences and perspectives at yesterday’s events, but also throughout the whole project - you are the changemakers and you are the reason this project has made a difference.

Here’s to what comes next - the connections, the people and talent that will keep growing and spreading across the county.

We sent out a feedback form today to all who attended - if you were there yesterday and have something to share with us, we’d be so grateful if you could complete this very short (4 questions!) questionnaire: https://forms.gle/gj2eAGsDWithhKzR9
