Happy 90th birthday to our wonderful Activity and Engagement volunteer, Shirley! 🎂

Shirley spends time chatting with patients and the people important to them on our Inpatient Unit. She loves connecting with people and is guaranteed to leave you with a smile on your face and a warm feeling in your heart.

We're so grateful for everything she brings to Ashgate Hospice. 💜

As we celebrate Volunteers' Week, Shirley is a wonderful reminder that there is no age limit on making a difference. Whether you're looking to meet new people, share your skills or give back to your community, there's a volunteering role for everyone.

It's day two of Volunteers' Week! 🎉

Today, we're celebrating some of the wonderful volunteers who help keep our hospice gardens looking their best.

From planting and pruning to maintaining beautiful outdoor spaces, their dedication helps create peaceful surroundings for patients and the people important to them. We're so grateful for all their hard work. 💜

To kick off Volunteers' Week, we're celebrating volunteer receptionist, Joan Smith. 💜

For many people, Joan is the first friendly face they see when they arrive at Ashgate Hospice.

Having retired and moved to Chesterfield, Joan wanted to stay active and connected to the community. After nearly four years volunteering at Ashgate, she's still welcoming visitors every Saturday morning and making a difference to patients, visitors and staff alike.

"It is so rewarding being a volunteer at Ashgate," says Joan.

We need your vote. 💜

Our Children's and Young People’s Service has been shortlisted for Tesco Stronger Starts funding with our project, Precious Family Moments.

The funding would help us provide special family experiences for children and young people. This includes visits to play centres, cinemas, National Trust and English Heritage sites, and outdoor activity centres. These experiences help create precious memories and meaningful time with those important to them.

Voting opens in selected Tesco stores until the end of July 2026.
