Find out what you can discover at Hardwick by visiting www.nationaltrust.org.uk/hardwick It was the formidable Bess of Hardwick who first created Hardwick in the late 1500s. In the centuries since then her descendants, farmers, gardeners, builders, decorators, embroiderers and craftsmen of all kinds have contributed and made Hardwick their creation. We want you to explore and enjoy Hardwick and in the process discover the lives, loves and adventures of the creators of Hardwick.

Something exciting is happening at Hardwick next week!
We'll be hosting a film crew on-site on Monday and Tuesday as they're filming an upcoming French documentary here.
The Hall itself will be closed on Tuesday (23 June) to allow filming to take place, but the gardens, estate, restaurant, and shops remain open as normal - and for a reduced price of just £6!
Watch this space for further updates.

The gardens are putting on quite a show today even if it's proper brolly weather. Our prescription for a rainy day? We think a leisurely hot drink and delicious meal in the restaurant is in order, followed by a wander inside the hall and around the new exhibitions. Sound good to you?

Together for good, we've kicked off the by litter picking with the Chesterfield Litter Pickers at Hardwick!

The team, made up of Hardwick Volunteers, Chesterfield Litter Pickers, and students part of the Outwood Out There programme, met at the Park Centre and soon swiftly collected a huge amount of litter in just 2 hours. The team separated the litter as they went along to allow for easy recycling by Ward, sponsors of Chesterfield Litter Pickers, this is an important step as it ensures nothing goes to landfill.

Thank you all so much for helping us to keep a quiet and peaceful part of the Hardwick Parkland litter-free and clean for everyone to enjoy. 👏

As Volunteers’ Week draws to a close, we wanted to say a huge thank you to all our volunteers at Hardwick. Over the past year, an incredible 55,884.5 hours have been generously gifted across the estate, from building our Summer of Play equipment to supporting the team in the café. And let’s not forget the many essential behind-the-scenes tasks, like bug monitoring in the Hall, helping to care for our collections so they can be enjoyed for generations to come.

Without our volunteers, we simply wouldn’t be able to look after such a special place. Every single person makes a difference whether they can give an afternoon each month or spend time with us every week. Now, let’s take a look at what our visitors have to say about our wonderful volunteers.

The summer gardens at Hardwick are bursting into life, even if the weather hasn’t quite got the message this week. A walk through the grounds, with the vibrant colours set against the grey, is enough to brighten anyone's day.🌺☁️

Some of our recent visitors may have noticed a new addition along the entrance drive on the way to Hardwick. We’re pleased to announce that this new sculpture marks the site of the Polish Resettlement Camp, where many Allied Polish soldiers lived during the post-war period from 1946 to 1960.

When the camp eventually closed, many families chose to remain in the area, building new lives in the villages surrounding Hardwick. They worked in mining and other local industries, married into local families, and established deep roots, contributing to the cultural and social fabric of the region.

Yesterday, we were honoured to welcome family members of those who lived at Hardwick as we unveiled the sculpture in the parkland. Thank you to Dave Bedford, our talented stonemason, for creating such a beautiful piece.👏
