Yey! Tupton Parish Council have approved the grant for our final Tupton Tots summer party! This is wonderful news and will make an unbelievable difference to our final party. Thank you again from all our attendees.
Key Points from Tupton Parish Council’s meeting of 13 May
📚 With May marking the start of the new municipal year, much of the meeting was procedural in nature.
📊 Chair of the Council, Cllr Pam Windley, presented an overview of the previous year, while the Council’s Responsible Financial Officer delivered a report on the council’s income and expenditure over the same period. Huge thanks to Pam for an excellent year as Chair.
👥 Cllr Ross Shipman was elected as Chair of the Council for the coming year, with Pam taking on the role of Vice Chair.
📑 The council re-adopted most of its existing policies and approved updated Financial Regulations, along with revised Code of Conduct, Information Technology, Data and Information Security, Social Media and Whistleblowing policies.
🚧 County Councillor Stephen Reed attended the meeting and was questioned regarding the poor management of the recent road closures, as well as when work can be expected on Station New Road. The answers on both points were somewhat woolly. Station New Road is due to be assessed during the current financial year, although that has only just begun, so realistically it is likely to remain patch repairs for the foreseeable future. Please continue reporting potholes and defects.
💷 Council approved:
• A £1,000 grant to 1st Tupton Scouts towards the purchase of a new minibus.
• A £350 grant to Tupton Tots to support a Toddler Fun Day at the Ivanhoe Pitch.
🚫 Members were also informed of proposals to introduce double yellow lines around the entrances to the access road off Derby Road. The aim is to prevent dangerous/problem parking at the junction and ensure bin lorries can gain access, as collections in that area are regularly impacted by parked vehicles. The lines are not expected to have any detrimental impact on nearby residents.
‼️Grants ranging from £100 to £5,000 will soon be available for local groups through the Three Pits Pride in Place scheme. A consultation event is being held at Tupton Village Hall on Monday 1 June from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Tupton has a huge number of community groups, so I’d strongly encourage representatives to attend and explore what support may be available.
☕️ The council also agreed to purchase a dishwasher for users of the Hub. Most people using the facility give their time voluntarily, so hopefully this will save some valuable time and effort.
ℹ️ Finally, the last remaining unit within the Hub has now been rented out, which will naturally help support and fund the parish council’s wider work in the community.
🗓️ Next meeting: 10 June 2026
Deadline for agenda items and grant applications: 3 June 2026
