Handbridge Community Association - HCA Bringing Handbridge communities together to make a difference. Handbridge is a district of Chester, England on the south bank of the River Dee.

Come along to our meeting on the first Tuesday of every month, 6pm in St Mary’s Handbridge Centre. A settlement has existed on the site since the Iron Age, but the site saw major expansion during the collapse of the Roman occupation of Britain, as the city grew too large for its walls. The site was originally mainly a quarry for the abundant red sandstone that much of Chester is built from, but in later years became a centre for salmon fishing in the Dee. Handbridge Community Association is a registered charity made up of a group of volunteers who live and/or work in the Handbridge area. The HCA plan and deliver projects that benefit the wider community. They meet on the first Tuesday of every month at 6pm in St Mary's Handbridge Centre. All residents and people who work in Handbridge are welcome to come along and find out more!

⚠️⚠️ URGENT WARNING TO DOG OWNERS IN HANDBRIDGE and DUKE’S DRIVE ⚠️⚠️

Please be extremely vigilant when walking your dogs around Duke’s Drive and the surrounding area following a very serious dog attack on Thursday evening (1st October).

My partner was walking her small, placid dog on Duke’s Drive when she was attacked by a German Shepherd understood to live in the local area.

The attack was extremely serious. My partner’s dog suffered devastating injuries, including broken bones, significant tissue damage and blood loss. She required emergency surgery and, at the time of writing, we still do not know whether she will survive.

I have put the matter in the hands of the police. I am posting this because I would hate for another dog, or potentially somebody trying to protect their dog, to experience what we have experienced.

If you walk your dog around Duke’s Drive or the surrounding Handbridge area, please be particularly vigilant.

If anyone witnessed the attack on Duke’s Drive on Thursday evening, or has information they believe may be directly relevant, please contact me privately so that it can be passed to the police.
