Handbridge Community Association - HCA

Handbridge Community Association - HCA Bringing Handbridge communities together to make a difference. Handbridge is a district of Chester, England on the south bank of the River Dee.

Come along to our meeting on the first Tuesday of every month, 6pm in St Mary’s Handbridge Centre. A settlement has existed on the site since the Iron Age, but the site saw major expansion during the collapse of the Roman occupation of Britain, as the city grew too large for its walls. The site was originally mainly a quarry for the abundant red sandstone that much of Chester is built from, but in

later years became a centre for salmon fishing in the Dee. Handbridge Community Association is a registered charity made up of a group of volunteers who live and/or work in the Handbridge area. The HCA plan and deliver projects that benefit the wider community. They meet on the first Tuesday of every month at 6pm in St Mary's Handbridge Centre. All residents and people who work in Handbridge are welcome to come along and find out more!

hToday's spotlight is for Indigo moth Botanical Prints!

Caroline says; "Through my art I seek to evoke a sense of harmony and interconnectedness with the natural world. To reflect a deep reverence for nature and its seasonal rhythms. I use photography to gather fleeting moments, finding beauty in simplicity and fragility. Capturing moments of ephemeral beauty or depicting subjects in various stages of growth, decay or transformation, reminding us of the impermanent nature of all things. Bringing awareness that nature creates the most exquisite things, which can be found in the most unassuming places. By immersing myself in the tiny details of the present moment when photographing and paying attention with awareness and intention, I aim to create work that evokes calmness, simplicity, and grace. "

With a lovely double stall this year, we are proud to have Woodwork to Wellness (https://www.woodworktowellness.com/) with us this year!

Woodwork to Wellness will involve people from all ages and different walks of life who are looking for that “something” to do with their spare time in a warm and relaxed environment. Even those, for whatever reason, find themselves in a most difficult place. Perhaps as a result of a major medical incident.

Being creative and learning new skills in a positive way is again rapidly becoming recognised as a leading player in wellbeing and can help in the adjustment to a new life or retirement. Art, writing, storytelling (narrative medicine) and the making or fixing of something in the workshop is truly transformative. A real life changer, often creating new beginnings quickly, sometimes referred to as “a light bulb moment”.

Woodwork to Wellness is home to well over 2,000 sq ft of workshop space. Two work benches are specifically for wheelchair users so that access to the surface of the bench is easy. Being creative and learning new skills in a positive way is becoming recognized as a leading player in wellbeing.
