Wishing all our members a happy International Women’s Day today 🙌🌺

Happy .

International Women’s Day is a time to come together and recognise the incredible achievements of women everywhere. This year, we’re shining a spotlight on the inspiring initiatives led by WI members who have generously given their time, care and skills to support other women.

ICYMI, we hosted our International Women’s Day webinar on Friday, and you can watch it back and hear these powerful stories:

Jane Sorrell and Bramhall WI (Cheshire Federation) shared how one speaker inspired meaningful action to support women in prison including establishing a regular book club.

Nicola Awni from GAP WI (Gwent Federation), a proud member of the Not in My Name Community Champions, who shared her passion for the campaign and the impactful work happening in Wales.

Jane Squirrell from Werrington WI (Huntingdon & Peterborough Federation), who spoke about setting up a prison crafting session – how it began, what they’ve learned, and the powerful impact crafting has had for both members and female residents.

Together, these stories show the strength of women coming together to uplift and empower others. Thank you for all you do, as members, supporters and friends of the NFWI to celebrate and inspire women everywhere.

Our February session when Upton Village WI embraced AI with Confidence and Curiosity!

Well done to Helen Jackson and the AI Adventurers.

Upton Village WI proved that learning has no age limit as members gathered for an inspiring and practical Artificial Intelligence workshop led by the group’s “AI Adventurers.”

The session focused on demystifying AI tools such as ChatGPT and helping members install and confidently use them on their own phones. What followed was an evening filled with curiosity, laughter, and real-world discovery.
From planning holidays to styling haircuts, members quickly realised how accessible and helpful AI can be in everyday life.

One member shared,

“Never thought I'd be using a bot in my 70s — can’t wait to tell my husband.”

Another commented,

“I’ve planned my holiday to Lanzarote in less than 10 minutes! I’ve surprised myself.”

There were practical successes too:

“I’m off to show my hairdresser what I want on Friday now — a fringe!”

Perhaps most telling was the reflection:
“Love that our WI is so vibrant and modern.”

The workshop explored both the opportunities and considerations surrounding AI, encouraging thoughtful discussion about its role in education, healthcare, work and daily life. Members were also signposted to further learning opportunities, including short explainer videos on the pros and cons of AI and the UK Government’s free AI learning courses.

For those wishing to explore further:

• Free UK Government AI courses (with certificate):

The evening highlighted an important message: technology should not feel exclusive or intimidating. When women gather around the tech table together, confidence grows — and possibilities expand.

Upton Village WI continues to champion lifelong learning, curiosity and community — proving that innovation and tradition can thrive side by side.
