Friends of Hoole Parks A community interest group dedicated to the green spaces of Hoole in Chester Join us!

The Friends of Hoole Parks seek to promote the enjoyment and development of our local green spaces, with specific focus on Alexandra Park and Coronation Playing Fields. However, we also care about the Narrows, Walker Street Park, Hoole Lane Park and Pipers Court. Membership is open to all local resident and park users, and we have links with local councillors, localities officers and community safety wardens.

A new flowering addition to the Narrows - Clary sage; grown from seed last year, and it's finally bloomed!

It's used in the fragrance industry; if you gently squeeze the flowers you can smell it's pretty pungent perfume.

The Narrows: A local school pupil has been volunteering in the park as part of her Duke of Edinburgh Award; as well as sowing seeds and planting wild flowers, she has also carried out research into some of our favourite plants, and created the poster below (a copy will also go up in the Noticeboard in the park) - Thank you for your hard work!

Good news - we've now got yellow rattle growing in all 3 meadows in the Narrows, and also in the new meadow in Alexandra park. It's been in the main meadow in the Narrows for several years, but this is the first time its flowering across the other areas too!

Yellow Rattle is key for getting meadows established, by competing against the grass.

It's been a good start to Spring in the Narrows - 4 years after planting, 3 clumps of snakehead fritillaries have finally made an appearance in meadow 2! And after 3 years, the celandine, English bluebells, lily of the valley and wild garlic are beginning to spread beautifully in the woody area (trees along the boundary of the school fence). Nature certainly teaches you patience!
