Even this week’s stormy weather could not dampen spirits at yesterday’s Green Aspirations Day! We had a great time welcoming three new primary schools from Liverpool and Ellesmere Port to learn about careers in the green sector.

Schoolchildren in years 5 and 6 were able to meet career professionals to talk about their jobs in this growing sector. They also got to hone their personal development skills through the outdoor learning activity, as hosted by YHA Chester Trafford Hall

Huge thanks again go to Energy for funding the day and for their awesome careers and education activities. Their sessions were definitely the loudest!! Thanks also go to first-time attendees Muir Group Housing Association for their brilliant, interactive session and to Ecogee, our fabulous regular attendees.

Yesterday, we welcomed our first cohort of pupils to Trafford Hall, as our Aspirations Day programme returned for the new school year! 💚

This week's Green Aspirations Day gave schoolchildren the chance to build confidence, broaden their horizons and explore future careers connected to the environment, sustainability and the transition to a greener future.

Through a range of hands-on activities, interactive workshops and career-focused conversations, pupils discovered how their interests and skills could lead to exciting opportunities across a growing sector.

We're also delighted to have welcomed Octopus Energy, one of Europe's leading investors in renewable energy and a UK-based supplier committed to driving the transition to cleaner energy. Their funding is making our Autumn Aspirations Days possible, creating valuable opportunities for children to learn about careers that are shaping the future.

The Octopus team were involved in the day, delivering an educational session and taking part in our Careers Carousel, where pupils can hear first-hand about the possibilities for future careers. Even Constantine the Octopus made an appearance... 🐙

We're delighted to have delivered another successful day filled with fun, learning and discovery.

Confident cooking in the community 👩🏽‍🍳🥘

It was great to see so many people within our communities coming together at Padiham Town Hall for a healthy cooking workshop, led by Sushma’s Community Cookery School CIC and The Hub Hugs4Free CIC.

The focus of the event was to share tasty meal recipes with that are easy to make on a budget.

Attendees learned practical skills including cooking from scratch, reducing food waste, batch cooking, and creating affordable, healthy meals for everyday life.

A big thank you to everyone who came down, and to Smokefree Lancashire for sponsoring the event.

Reflecting on the event, Sushma said:
“This has been a dream of mine for a long time, bringing people together through food, culture, and community. With my Kenyan roots and Indian heritage, food has always been about so much more than eating… it’s about connection, sharing, and learning.”

Bringing the community together with the power of good food!

On the 9th of September, our lovely Community Champions, Sushma Solanki and Vivien Storey, are hosting Community Cookery Event at Padiham Town Hall, and everyone is welcome.

The event will combine teaching people practical cooking skills with a shared commitment to reducing food waste. It's a great opportunity to come together in the community and learn a new skill.

Events like these help strengthen our neighbourhoods while promoting healthy eating and sustainability!

Wishing the best of luck to Sushma and Vivien with the day.

We're delighted to enter a partnership with Octopus Energy who will support the delivery of two exciting Green Aspirations Days this autumn!

By working together, young people will have the opportunity to explore green careers, discover new pathways into employment, and learn more about the growing sustainability sector.

These events will weave together schools, employers and community partners all in one place, to inspire the next generation and help them understand the important role they can play in creating a greener future.

We're pleased to share the Octopus Energy team will also be actively involved in the days, sharing their expertise and helping young people gain real insight into careers within the green economy.

Sai Cham, Early Careers Talent Partner at Octopus Energy said, “Young people deserve every opportunity that is available to them, particularly when it comes to working in green energy. So we’re very happy to be working with NCRC to help us reach our goal of reaching 1 million young people by 2028.”

We're excited to help create new opportunities and strengthen the threads that connect young people to brighter futures.

Looking back to our Tenants' Voice event last month, we caught up with Tim Morton on the day, to hear his thoughts on the event and its importance to the project.

Like us, Tim was impressed with the amount of insight that the tenants attending provided and loved the number of technical questions that were asked. These questions will be hugely beneficial to shaping the Tenants' Voice digital platform, and the next steps we take.

Listen to what Tim had to say below...
