Update on Bill Richards from Keith Regan Haycock.

I went to see Bill yesterday.

At first, he did not recognise me, as I expected.

After staying with Bill for a few hours, he started to remember some of the good times he had serving with the Great 22nd Cheshire Regiment, and a few names he could remember.

Bill was a collector of many photos and asked me to sort a few out to post them on the CRA page. I left with a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye, with a promise I would return next Wednesday

From Graham Conway:

My recently published book "When Grandad Went to War" covers, among other things ny grandad's service at Mons in 1914 and also my uncle's service with the Regiment during WW2 from Dunkirk to Palestine.

All proceeds will go towards the appeal for a Memorial at Audregnies, being organised by Paddy Jackson.

in 2007, the Mercian Regiment was formed at Tamworth Castle. This was the result of the amalgamation of the Cheshire Regiment, the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment, and the Staffordshire Regiment. Present was the Regiment's then Colonel in Chief, HRH The Prince of Wales; now HM King Charles III.

In the years since our formation, the Mercian Regiment has gone on to be known as one of the most operationally deployed Regiments in the Infantry, while also being coined 'The Heart of England's Infantry'. Although we have achieved many great things as the Mercian Regiment, we must not forget our 330+ years of history that have shaped our existence.

To all our Mercian family out there, we thank you for your support. And to all of our soldiers, we thank you for protecting our country so our families can stay safe.

💪

Just had a message from Bill Richards daughter.

Not sure if any of you knew, but he's been battling Vascular Dementia for a few years. We had the unbelievably sad news last week that he also has cancer and has a very short prognosis, so I'm trying to reach people to let them know. Please let others know I'm in touch with you. I'll keep you updated. We had hoped to get him to Blackpool for one last trip but thought we might have had a little longer.
