LUGA AND WHY FUNDRAISING MATTERS

Every donation, no matter how small, helps give dogs like Luga a second chance.

When Luga came into DRUE it was following a late-night call from a vet asking for help with the cost of treating painful bladder stones and demodex. Thanks to donations and fundraising efforts, we were able to step in immediately, ensuring he received the surgery he desperately needed. His operation was successful and he recovered well in foster care.

Unfortunately, Luga's journey did not end there. In April, he began struggling to urinate again. Further tests revealed a blockage in his urethra. After an emergency attempt to flush the blockage failed, he required another major surgery to create a new opening so he could urinate properly. Without the support of donations, these life-saving procedures would not have been possible.

Today, Luga continues to need specialist care. He has been diagnosed with mild DCM, requires a freshly prepared diet to help prevent bladder crystals from returning and needs ongoing monitoring and treatment for his health conditions. DRUE is committed to covering future medical costs relating to his bladder condition, demodex and DCM, ensuring that financial concerns will never stand in the way of his wellbeing.

However, rescue is about much more than veterinary treatment alone. Donations also help cover the everyday essentials that many people never see. They help provide nutritious food, safe and comfortable kennel accommodation when foster homes are unavailable, bedding, enrichment toys, transport and even something as simple as an hour of freedom in a secure field where a dog can run, play and simply enjoy being a dog.

These everyday costs add up quickly, but they are just as important as emergency medical care. They help dogs recover physically, build confidence, reduce stress, and prepare for life in a forever home.

Luga is currently waiting for that special someone to offer him the loving home he deserves as his foster carer is unable to keep him permanently. Fundraising and donations ensure that he continues to receive everything he needs - medical treatment, good nutrition, safe accommodation, exercise, enrichment and the love and care that every dog deserves.

When people donate, they are not simply giving money. They are helping dogs like Luga survive, recover and have the opportunity to find the happy future they deserve.

Dobby is a rescue dog from Turkey and is thought to be around 3 years old. She has been spayed.
We are helping her current family on a rehome-to-rehome basis. We did not place Dobby and were not involved in bringing her into the UK. She is currently in Wales with the person who adopted her, but the adopter is struggling to cope.
Temperament with People
Dobby is very affectionate and loves people both inside and outside the home. She is not reactive to strangers visiting the house and sees people as an opportunity for attention, fuss, and affection.
Behaviour with Dogs and Other Animals
Dobby is generally good with other dogs and has been well socialised. She has not shown aggression in previous homes and is described as sweet-natured.
Some dogs tolerate her, while others absolutely love her. She was best friends with a large young male dog and would play with him for hours.
She is not used to cats.
Children
Dobby has lived with a baby and was very gentle. Her current owner has also said that she has been fantastic with a 4-year-old grandchild, who is able to walk her calmly on the lead.
She has also been around children in the village in Turkey, where she was well loved. She appears calm around children and enjoys attention from them. However, she is still a large dog, can be unaware of her size, and does not always understand personal space.
Living with Other Dogs
Dobby has lived with two dogs, Eva and Violet. She currently lives with a chihuahua
Food and Resource Guarding
Dobby can live with other dogs, but she has shown some resource guarding around food. For this reason, she should be fed separately, and clear boundaries should be maintained around food.
Being Left Alone
Dobby is good when left alone. She settles well, sleeps or relaxes at home, and sleeps through the night without barking or misbehaving.
Food should not be left on kitchen counters or within reach, as she is likely to steal it.
If you are interested in her please email us [email protected]
Dobby is not with us so please don’t apply, we are just helping her owner. We will pass on your details thanks

Gary is all set for his latest adventure, and he couldn’t look happier! Thanks to the dedication of our wonderful volunteers, dogs like Gary get the chance to enjoy much more than just their daily routine in the kennels. Regular outings give them the opportunity to explore new sights, sounds and smells, helping to keep their minds active and their tails wagging. Whether it’s a lead stroll through countryside, an hour of freedom in the local secure paddock, or simply some time spent out and about, these experiences are invaluable for their wellbeing and confidence.

Our volunteers play a huge role in enriching the lives of the dobies in our care. They spend time walking them, playing games, practising basic training, and providing plenty of affection and companionship. These interactions help the dogs stay social, burn off energy, and build positive relationships with people. For dogs like Gary, every adventure is a chance to learn, have fun, and enjoy the attention they deserve while they wait for their forever home. We’re incredibly grateful to our volunteers for giving their time and making such a positive difference to the lives of our kennel dogs every single day. 🐾💙
