Congratulations to Sgt Clegg!

617 (Heber) Squadron is delighted to congratulate Sgt Clegg on successfully completing his Method of Instruction (MOI) assessment!

This is a fantastic achievement and an important milestone in his development as an NCO. The MOI qualification enables cadets to formally instruct on the squadron, sharing their knowledge, developing their leadership skills and helping others achieve their potential.

For 617 Squadron, this is also a valuable addition to our team. Developing qualified young instructors strengthens our training capability and ensures we can continue to provide opportunities for cadets to build confidence, develop transferable skills and prepare for successful careers, both within the RAF Air Cadets and beyond.

Well done, Sgt Clegg! A brilliant achievement and another positive step forward for both your personal development and the future of 617 Squadron.

Thank you to OC 1873 (Sandbach) Squadron for assessing.

617 at Bishop Heber High School

Last week, cadets of 617 attended the Bishop Heber High School Open Event, helping to raise awareness of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets and the opportunities available to young people within the local community.

From flying and fieldcraft to shooting, adventure training, leadership, STEM, Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards and so much more there are plenty of opportunities for cadets to challenge themselves, learn new skills and make memories along the way.

It was great to speak to students and families about what we do and how they can get involved with 617 Squadron.

A big thank you to Bishop Heber High School for inviting us along and supporting us in showcasing what RAFAC has to offer.

Who knows… perhaps some future 617 cadets were there!

SQUADRON PARTNERS SPOTLIGHT

As part of National Cadet Week, we’re taking the opportunity to recognise some of the fantastic organisations that support 617 (Heber) Squadron.

Today, a big thank you to Malpas Parish Council for supporting the purchase of our new squadron gazebo.

It might seem like a simple addition, but for a growing squadron, having our own gazebo is a fantastic resource, giving us a proper presence at events, activities and community engagements.

And it’s already been put to good use!

Support like this makes a real difference to our cadets and helps us continue to grow and get involved in more opportunities across Malpas and beyond.

Thank you, Malpas Parish Council, for supporting 617 and our cadets.

National Cadet Week, another video… yes, but why not?

We’ve already shared a video this week… but when you’ve got this many great moments from 617, it would be rude not to share another!

From flying and fieldcraft to camps, courses, competitions and everything in between the last few months have been pretty special for our cadets.

So, for National Cadet Week, here’s another little look at what 617 (Heber) Squadron has been getting up to.

And honestly… why not?

There’s plenty more to come.

What better way to showcase National Cadet Week than getting airborne?!

Last Thursday, some of our cadets from 617, had the opportunity to take to the skies!

From the excitement of getting kitted up and heading towards the aircraft, to the moment the wheels left the ground, it was another brilliant opportunity for our cadets to experience something that you simply don’t get to do every day.

Flying is just one of the many opportunities available through the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, giving young people the chance to challenge themselves, build confidence and experience things they may never have thought possible.

And that's exactly what National Cadet Week is all about, celebrating the opportunities, experiences and friendships that make being a cadet so special.

Over the coming week, we'll be looking back at some of the highlights from the last few months at 617 Squadron.

Flying, adventure, leadership, skills, camps, competitions and plenty of memories along the way.

This is what being a cadet is all about.

National Cadet Week starts here!

To kick off National Cadet Week, we thought we’d take a little look back at what 617 (Heber) Squadron have been up to over the last few months…

And, quite frankly… We’ve had a great time! 😂

Summer Camp at RAF Valley
Road Marching
Wing activities and competitions
Shooting, STEM, sport and adventure
Courses, qualifications and new challenges
Plenty of opportunities to make new friends and build confidence

From the cadets who have been with us for years to those who have only recently joined, it’s been brilliant seeing 617 Squadron getting stuck in, trying new things and making memories along the way.

And there’s plenty more to come…

617 Squadron Steps Up on Road Marching

OC Fg Off C Lord Latham and CI E Wylie recently attended the Road Marching Team Leaders Course at RAF Cosford, developing their knowledge and skills to support cadets working through the RAF Air Cadets Road Marching syllabus.

The weekend was certainly not just classroom-based, with both being put through their paces as they developed the practical skills and knowledge required to lead and support cadets safely through their road marching journey.

The course provided a fantastic opportunity to strengthen the squadron's ability to offer road marching opportunities to our cadets, while also gaining valuable experience and knowledge from instructors and other staff from across the organisation.

With the training now complete, we're looking forward to putting it into practice and getting our cadets out on the road.

Malpas, 617 is coming!

617 Squadron at RAF Valley

Over the summer, cadets from 617 joined cadets from across Greater Manchester Wing for an action-packed Summer Camp at RAF Valley in North Wales.

The week provided a fantastic opportunity for our cadets to experience life around a busy RAF station and gain an insight into the wide range of roles and opportunities available within the Royal Air Force.

Throughout the week, cadets had the opportunity to learn more about the different squadrons and units based at RAF Valley, including getting an insight into helicopters, fast jets, firefighting and the many specialist roles that help keep an operational air station running.

Away from the airfield, the programme was just as varied. Cadets enjoyed a visit from the RNLI, learning more about the vital work carried out by their crews, alongside time spent on the beach and plenty of opportunities to relax, have fun and build friendships with cadets from across the Wing.

617 (Heber) Squadron Supporting the Malpas Yesteryear Steam Rally!

Last weekend, 617 were out and about supporting the Malpas Yesteryear Steam Rally.

Our cadets got stuck in from the start, helping to sell programmes throughout the event in support of the organisers, while also raising valuable funds for the squadron through a community donation.

It was fantastic to see everyone with a smile on their face, chatting with members of the public and representing the squadron with professionalism and enthusiasm. Community events like these are a great opportunity for our cadets to give back, build confidence and showcase everything that makes 617 such a positive part of Malpas.

A huge thank you to all of the cadets and volunteers who gave up their time to support the event. You did the squadron proud!

A Brilliant Day for 617 at the Greater Manchester Wing Training Day!

Yesterday, our cadets proudly represented 617 at the Greater Manchester Wing Training Day, competing against squadrons from across the Wing in a wide range of competitions.

We're incredibly proud to say that 617 entered every single competition on the day, a fantastic achievement in itself and a real reflection of the commitment, enthusiasm and teamwork shown by our cadets.

A special congratulations goes to our Media Team, who achieved an outstanding 2nd place in the Media Competition!

Across the day, the squadron finished mid-table overall, which is a brilliant result considering the strength of competition and our determination to take part in every event.

To every cadet who competed: thank you for representing the squadron with such pride. Win or lose, you gave it your all, supported one another, and showed exactly what 617 is all about.

Super proud of you all! Let's get them next year!!
