Travel insurance is an absolute essential when going on any kind of trip abroad.

Not having the right insurance cover - or not taking out travel insurance at all - is one of the main problems that young Brits and their families run into if things go wrong and there needs to be a medical evacuation or in the worst case scenario, a repatriation, after a serious accident FCDO travel advice

Get insured - and when shopping around make sure you choose a policy that will bring you home if the worst happens.

A lost passport will potentially cause you a lot of stress and hassle, either if it's shortly before you go on holiday or you lose it while you're away.

It is a simple message but - check you know where it is if you have a holiday coming up and - wherever you go - keep it really safe! FCDO travel advice

“On the 27th September I am running the London Vitality 10K for Charity.

(the JackTheLad Foundation) was setup by the Howe Family as a Registered Charity in March 2020 in memory of Jack Howe, who died in an accident on a quad bike in Zante, Greece, on 21 June 2019.

It has a special place in my heart with Jack Howe being a close friend growing up through the years, as well as tragically losing another friend Jack Fenton on holiday too. Through the charity , as well as the money raised by many fundraisers, both families were able to get their sons home from unfortunately passing away abroad on holiday.

They are a partner in the UK Government’s TravelAware initiative, working to assist in awareness of risk and accident prevention.
When the worst happens, repatriation costs are often not covered by insurance, and they can assist with grants for bereaved families.

It would really mean a lot with any donations for this great cause!”

Good luck 🏃🏼

Brits can run into trouble and risk misunderstandings or worse, when we don't know enough about local laws and customs when abroad.

Take time to do a bit of research and respect local ways. You'll always have a better holiday that way. FCDO travel advice

‘WHY WE HAVE CHOSEN JACKTHELAD

We have chosen to raise money for JackTheLad Foundation because this charity is not just a charity to us anymore — they became part of our family’s journey when we needed help the most. When Joshua Kershaw died in Thailand, our family was suddenly faced with something we never could have imagined. We had lost Josh. He was only 21 years old. And on top of the heartbreak of losing him, we had to face the devastating reality of trying to bring him home from Thailand. We didn’t know how we were going to do it. At a time when we were already completely broken, the thought that we might not even be able to bring Josh home to his family was unbearable. JackTheLad stepped in and helped us. They provided financial assistance towards bringing Josh home, they arranged everything for us and because of their help, we were able to bring Josh back home to us. Without JackTheLad, we genuinely don’t know how we would have managed to get Josh home. No family should ever have to face the loss of their child, brother, nephew, grandson or loved one abroad and then have to worry about whether they can afford to bring them home. That is exactly why JackTheLad exists.

🪂 SO WE’RE JUMPING OUT OF A PLANE FOR HIM
On 18th July 2027, what would have been Josh’s 23rd birthday, we are going to do something completely out of our comfort zones.WE ARE GOING SKYDIVING. We will be jumping out of a plane on Josh’s birthday, carrying his name and his memory with us every single step of the way.

Donate if you can. Share if you can’t.

Every penny goes to JackTheLad Foundation.’

Renting a motorcycle or quad bike on holiday is one of the biggest risks you will ever take.

80% of the repatriations JackTheLad has helped with in the last 12 months have been in circumstances where a young British person has died as the result of a motorcycle accident.

That's a terrifyingly sad statistic.

Travel insurance almost certainly won't fully cover you if you have an accident and we know of many seriously injured Brits who have been stuck in foreign hospitals at huge expense to their families.

Just don't do it. Please. There are so many other ways to have fun and come home safely.

If you are an experienced rider and if you must hire a bike, make sure you have insurance that specifically covers you and make sure you comply with the terms. Wear all the right safety gear.

Please don't become a balcony statistic.

You will have heard about the accidents that can happen.

Nobody intends to fall from a balcony but it happens all too often to Brits abroad in higher rise accommodation.

Don't take any risks at all on balconies. Call out dangerous behaviour if you see it.

Look after your mates. Look after yourself.

FCDO travel advice is always worth a look too.
