Something I was made aware of at yesterdays event, was that Northern Gas can fit a Locking Cooker Valve to gas cooker in a home of a vulnerable adult.

Are you worried about an older relative using the cooker alone, or leaving it on by accident....this is to help that.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending a fabulous full-day course exploring The Future of Ageing in County Durham, hosted by Advice in County Durham at Durham Cricket Ground. 💙

It was a brilliant day of networking, sharing ideas and learning from some fantastic local services and charities, including Age UK County Durham, Alzheimer's Society, Durham Constabulary and County Durham & Darlington Fire & Rescue Service.

We explored the many ways we can help people in our communities to age well, stay connected and live life to the fullest. From supporting people living with dementia and tackling loneliness and isolation, to helping people remain active, independent and involved in their communities well into later life, there was so much valuable information to take away.

I’ve come away with new contacts, fresh ideas for activities and opportunities we could introduce here at Pelton Community Centre, and a much greater awareness of the fantastic support available across our area. 🏡

At Pelton Community Centre, we want to continue creating opportunities for everyone in our community to connect, try something new, make friends and feel they belong, whatever their age.

But we can’t do it without listening to you! ❤️

If there’s something you’d love to see happening at the Centre, an activity you think is missing, or a service you feel would benefit our community, please let us know. We’re always looking for new ideas and ways to make our Centre even better for the people we’re here for. 😀

We have just met Lucky and Jess, from Healthy Families County Durham to make some plans to help our families take the first step towards a happy, healthy and active life.

We hope to bring you some free sessions for families to join.... so watch this space.

In the meantime, they will be down at REfUSE in Chester le street next week if you wanted to catch them. 😁

Local Network Community Engagement Ward Events

Chester-le-Street and surrounding areas Local Network (LN) will be hosting 6 Community Engagement Ward events as follows:

• North Lodge - Main Hall, Park View School Lower Site, North Lodge, DH3 4BB - 2:00pm to 6:00pm, Wednesday 28 October
• Chester-le-Street South - The Cabin, Bullion Hall, DH2 2DW - 2:00pm to 6:00pm, Wednesday 4 November
• Sacriston and Witton Gilbert - Nettlesworth Community Centre, DH2 3PN - 2:00pm to 6:00pm, Wednesday 11 November
• Pelton - Pelton Community Centre, DH2 1DE - 2:30pm to 6:30pm, Wednesday 18 November
• Lumley and West Rainton - The Café, Jubilee Hall, West Rainton, DH4 6NU - 2:00pm to 6:00pm, Wednesday 25 November
• Chester-le-Street North - Walter Best Room, Cornerstones Centre for the Community, DH3 3TF - 3:15pm to 7:15pm, Thursday 26 November

The events are being held on a drop-in basis, there is no requirement for anyone wishing to attend to pre-book a place in advance. The events will be based around Electoral Wards and, where possible, are being held within that Ward area. If you are unable to attend the event relevant to your Ward area, you are more than welcome to attend another session to discuss your issues with the Local Network Team.

The Local Network community engagement events will:

- Provide an opportunity for communities, residents, councillors, the voluntary and community sector and partners to engage with the LN Team to identify local issues
- Provide each LN with community feedback to assist with the development of their Local Network Action Plan (LNAP) detailing local issues and how these will be tackled through co-ordinated activity and collaborative working with partners
- Help to deliver positive outcomes for residents

At the events, we will be asking attendees the following questions about their own communities / areas:

- What positive things are happening locally and what do you like about your area?

- What changes or improvements would you like to see in your area?

Local Network Teams will be asking attendees to think about the above questions in relation to the following six themes in the context of their own community / area:

- Employment, Jobs, Skills, Education and Training
- Health and Wellbeing
- Environment and Natural Spaces
- Housing and Physical Infrastructure
- Culture, Heritage and Events
- Community Safety

We’re delighted to be teaming up with Age UK County Durham once again for another fantastic Day Disco! ❤️

We’ve had such a brilliant time at our previous discos, with lots of dancing, laughter, lovely chats, catching up with friends and making new ones. 🥰

And the best bit? It’s a great afternoon out, with plenty of fun and dancing, and you’ll still be home before 4pm! 🎉
