Following conversations with the 2 Lads connected to the recent incident (and their Parents), who have recognised their involvement, we can confirm we have a solution in which the lads pay for their wrong doings in a way that supports the Centre.

We consider the matter now closed and on that basis the original post will be removed.

If nothing else it has hopefully helped people understand that we are a registered charity and any support you give us, or attendance at our events will only help us become better and stronger. So continue to like and share our posts as it all helps make people aware that we exist, and thanks again for all of your supportive comments and messages.

However, in the meantime bring on the rewire which starts tomorrow 🫣, keep your 🤞 for us 😀.

Hi All,

Just a polite request to anyone with party bookings at the Centre. A booking is not secure until a booking form and deposit are received.

We have a number of potential dates / times on the calendar that we are holding, with multiple enquiries coming in all of the time. If you no longer require your date could you please let us know and I can re allocate it.

This is a really important exercise, as our re-wire of the whole building commences next week and the contractor will be basing his work schedule on availability within rooms based on the information I have. If bookings are not secured I will be opening up those time slots to him to enable him to carry out the work.

Massive thank you to Vicky and Sam who have turned up and surprised us by cleaning up the memorial garden at the Community Centre.

It was a lovely surprise when I have walked round to the carpark.

Our Latest News 😊

Some exciting and much needed developments are about to begin at Ouston Community Centre.

Some of you may have already heard the fantastic news, that we can now undertake a complete rewire of our Centre. This is following our successful application to receive Section 106 Grant Funding allocated by Durham County Council and supported by Cllr Biggs, Cllr Cross and Cllr Quirey.

Work will be commencing in October, but it will take several weeks to complete and we do not underestimate the
huge task that this will be and are in no doubt that our 50+ old building will have some surprises in store for us. The Centre will be closed between Christmas and New Year and the first 2 weeks in January, however we are going to try and be as accommodating as possible where we can but as work progresses, we are sure you will appreciate this could be subject to change.

This will not affect any of our existing room bookings for functions (outside the period mentioned above) and please still get in touch if we can be of any assistance with future room bookings. It could, however, mean we might be seeing areas within the ceilings that we have never seen before, or that areas within rooms may have to be restricted or barriered off. We will endeavor to make this as least disruptive as possible and ask that you bear with us and be as understanding as possible. Should you wish to discuss this further do not hesitate to contact us.

I am sure you will all agree that this is fantastic news for our Centre moving forward and on behalf of the Board we would like to thank everyone involved that has and is helping to make this happen.

Don't forget ...
.. that The Community Centre now has In-Post lockers at the end of our building as shown in the photo.

Also remember to park in our carpark to the rear of the building when dropping off and collecting, out of consideration for our Neighbours

Morning All,

Just a quick update to let everyone know about recent changes at the Centre.

Our Centre Manager Trina left last Friday and we are sure, will be a miss to our regulars. We would like to wish Trina well and also to reassure everyone it’s business as usual for us all at the Centre.

After an extended break over the Summer Holidays, our weekly Tuesday Coffee Morning will resume on Tuesday 8th September and we would love to see you all there, 10:30 - 12:00, to chat about any queries you may have.

You will probably see a bit more of our dedicated trustees around the Centre for a while, with Alison Batey taking on the role of Acting Centre Manager in the interim, supported by our other volunteers.

You may not be aware, the funding for our Caretaker came to an end, but we are looking to secure further funding for a replacement role in the future. However, complications regarding our lease, Asset Transfer, conversion to CIO, alongside the difficulty of our Trustees being unpaid volunteers, some with full time jobs and family commitments, has meant that it hasn’t happened as quickly as we would like.

Following Trina’s departure, we are now taking the opportunity to revise all of the job roles and focus on securing the required funding, with a view to advertising / recruiting for a new Centre Manager and Site Operative in the New Year.

We are always looking for ways to improve the Centre and welcome constructive comments and suggestions. You can contact us at any time to share your views. In the meantime we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that Ouston Community Centre continues to be a valuable asset to the local Community, providing all kinds of groups, classes and events for Ouston, Urpeth Grange and the surrounding areas.

We are always looking for volunteers to join us, especially those with valuable skills and experience. We currently have skills gaps in HR, Health and Safety, and IT which would be particularly helpful, but all are welcome.
