A frequently asked question is who can access AIM Alternative Provision?

We support primary-aged learners (Years 1–6) who are experiencing barriers to accessing mainstream education.

This may include learners with:

• Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA)
• Autism
• ADHD
• Communication and cognition needs
• Social, emotional and mental health needs
• Dyslexia and other learning differences
• Neurodiverse profiles

Every referral is considered individually, and we work closely with schools, families and local authorities to ensure the support we provide is appropriate for each learner's needs.

Before a child can engage with learning, they need to feel safe, understood and supported.

Wellbeing isn't something that happens alongside education—it forms the foundation of it.

Our learners have been finding out about volcanoes. The topic has culminated in a joint paper mache volcano, which has been painted, ready to mix the substances and erupt tomorrow. The children loved being in control of the volcano, its structure and the final design. Look at that oozing paint! This has been a great project, learning about volcanoes around the world, when they last erupted and the vocabulary and world knowledge in between. Then experimenting with liquids tomorrow to see how to make it erupt. True, memorable learning!

Every child deserves an education that helps them feel safe, confident and able to succeed.

For some learners, mainstream education provides exactly what they need. For others, barriers such as anxiety, emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA), communication differences or neurodiversity can make accessing education much more challenging.

Alternative Provision isn't about giving up on mainstream education—it's about providing the right support, at the right time, in the right environment.

Success looks different for every learner.

For one child, it may be taking part in a group activity for the first time. For another, it could be building a new friendship, trying a creative challenge or feeling confident enough to express how they're feeling.

These moments might seem small to others, but they often represent huge personal milestones.

By celebrating progress rather than perfection, we help children develop confidence, resilience and a positive sense of self.
