This cheeky chap is the Memorable Repair No.3! Brought in by our chief tea maker and fab front of house volunteer Fiona, this Koala was very worn and had lost a lot of stuffing. Amazing leather repairer Yvonne patched him up where he had eroded over time with little leather patches glued on. Fiona got him when she was 8 so he's over 58 years old! It was bought for her when her family stopped in Australia after a 6 week journey by ship from Portsmouth, on the way to the Solomon Islands where they lived until she was 10! A well travelled bear with lots of tales to tell for many more years ๐Ÿป

Here is a Memorable Repair from our fabulous wood and 'miscellaneous' repairer Lyn (he can fix all sorts and also hand makes string instruments!)
This old sign from a family home that was demolished by a runaway lorry was his most memorable repair so far. A French wood filler called Sintobois - subtitled โ€˜Rebouche gros trousโ€™ was used to build up the fragile and destroyed wood. He used a whole tin on all the damage!! The lady has hung it on her staircase wall and shows how the most memorable repairs are often very sentimental.

Where it all started 5 years ago! Here are some of the shots from our first session at the Bagnall Centre on 12th Sept 2021. We wanted to thank everyone who has contributed to the RC over the years as volunteers, photographers, tea drinkers! Bringing in items in the hope that they can be repaired and saving them from landfill is a defiant act and has such a positive impact on our community. Thank you - we will be sharing some memories of great repairs (and attempts) over the next week so keep an eye out... And hope to see you on the 26th for our birthday! ๐Ÿ’š

Another ongoing repair at the cafe has been this very cheeky and jolly bear whom Erin has been lovingly working on each month. Soon to have a full new waistcoat to be able to receive many more years of cuddles it shows how dedicated our fantastic volunteers are! ๐Ÿ’
