🌍 Launching “Cooking and Community” – Help Us Make It Happen! 🍲💛

We’re excited to share the launch of our new crowdfunder: Cooking and Community – a project dedicated to building a supportive, welcoming space for refugees, asylum seekers, and the wider community here in Ashford.

Our vision is simple but powerful: bringing people together through food, creativity, and shared experiences. Through twice-weekly sessions, we’ll create opportunities for individuals and families to connect, learn, and grow.

✨ What we’ll offer:

Cooking and sharing meals from around the world

Learning how to prepare affordable, budget-friendly meals in the UK

Creative activities like crafting and arts

Informal English learning and support with everyday life in the UK

A safe, friendly space to build confidence, resilience, and new friendships

This project is about more than just activities—it’s about belonging. It’s about improving wellbeing, reducing isolation, and creating a strong, connected community where everyone feels valued.

💬 But we can’t do it alone.

Your support will help us provide materials, food, and a safe space for these sessions to take place.

👉 Please consider donating and sharing our crowdfunder to help us bring this project to life. Every contribution, big or small, makes a real difference.

Together, we can build something meaningful—one meal, one conversation, one connection at a time. 💛

Building a supportive community for refugees and the wider community in Ashford. Connection, integration and increased wellbeing through cooking, crafting, learning English, and social activities.

Another spring, another community garden! We are extremely happy and excited to now be collaborating with Repton Community Garden to help make this space flourish.

Yesterday we held our first session here, bringing together people navigating the asylum system with longterm Ashford residents.

After a morning’s hard graft, we had a cuppa in the sun and chatted about food, learning loads about each other’s cuisines, I think all the hard work had made us hungry 😅.

This morning in Gravelines, two people lost their lives in the Channel after a small boat got into serious difficulty. One person is still missing.

We are thinking of their loved ones, the families, friends, and communities left in shock, in grief, and in uncertainty. We stand in solidarity with them.

These were people with names, stories, and people who cared about them. They were trying to reach safety.

No one should have to take this journey. No one should be left with so few options that the sea becomes their only chance.

These deaths are not accidents. They are the result of a system that fails to provide safe ways for people to seek protection or reunite with family.

There is another way. Safe routes would mean people are not forced onto these boats. Safe routes would mean families are not left waiting for news that never comes.

We will remember those who lost their lives today. And we stand with those still searching, still waiting, still hoping.

Safe routes now.

Just a little message to say a huge thank you from all of us — and especially from our wonderful Knit and Natterers — for the incredibly kind donations of wool, yarn, buttons and knitting tools so many of you have given. 🧶

Your generosity really does mean so much. As you can see from the photos, the group has been very busy creating some beautiful pieces, and the talent and skills within the group are truly amazing!

Thanks to your support, not only are lovely things being made, but new friendships are forming and skills are being shared, which is exactly what the group is all about.

We are so grateful for your kindness and support. Thank you for helping make our Knit and Natter group such a warm, creative and welcoming place. 🧡
