Everyman Theatre Community Making the arts accessible for all via our work at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham.

The Everyman Theatre’s Education & Community work is about making the arts accessible for all. Our year-round programme includes creative workshops, youth theatre, choirs and community outreach projects. In 2026 we’ll open the Everyman Education Centre on Grove Street, a dedicated centre for creativity in Cheltenham, with community at its heart.

Last week, we were delighted to welcome volunteers from Cheltenham Welcomes Refugees to a performance of The Beekeeper of Aleppo at the Everyman Theatre. 🐝

Prior to the show, CWR volunteers showcased beautiful cards designed by local people seeking sanctuary, with all proceeds supporting the incredible work of Cheltenham Welcomes Refugees.

The Beekeeper of Aleppo is a deeply moving story that follows husband and wife, Nuri and Afra, as they’re forced to flee war-ravaged Syria, exploring themes of displacement, hope, and the extraordinary strength of human connection.

For many volunteers, the performance offered a powerful insight into the lived experiences of the people they support – something they can carry forward into their work.

To make the evening even more special, volunteers had the opportunity to meet some of the leading cast after the curtain fell, sparking important and meaningful conversations.

Thank you Cheltenham Welcomes Refugees for joining us as we celebrated National Volunteer Week. ✨

Meet the lovely Jo, our Head of Education & Community at the Everyman Theatre!👋

Jo joined us two months ago, stepping into the role while Jess is on maternity leave.

At the heart of Jo’s role is building strong, meaningful partnerships with people and organisations, leading our brilliant Education and Community team, securing funding and ensuring our work truly reflects the needs and interests of Gloucestershire communities.

A hugely exciting part of Jo’s role is overseeing the development of our brand-new Education Centre at Grove Street as we head into the final stages of this significant project. Jo will guide the site through the finishing touches right through to its official opening later this year! 🎉

Jo’s passion for making the arts accessible to all is central to all her work, and visiting the many incredible projects led by our team has already been a highlight of her time with us:

“There are such a diverse range of adults and young people engaging through the team’s work and, having spoken to many participants, it’s evident the real and tangible positive difference taking part makes to their lives.”

✨FUN FACTS ✨

🏊‍♀️Jo loves outdoor swimming and taking part in colour runs!

🎭Her favourite musical is Hairspray as it was her first theatre visit post covid. She and her daughter both burst into tears when the curtain went up, simply from the joy of being back in a theatre.

🎤She feels most creative when she’s singing her heart out in the car!

❤️And in Jo’s own words:
“Even though I’m only 2 months in, I can confidently say, I love my job because of the people!”

We are incredibly lucky to have Jo leading our Education and Community team through such an exciting chapter for the Everyman Theatre. Thank you, Jo, for all your dedication, positivity and passion – we can’t wait for what’s to come!

A huge congratulations to our incredible Senior Youth Theatre group for their outstanding performances in Threads last week. 👏

It was a truly special evening as we celebrated the talent and hard work of these brilliant young performers, while also marking 40 years of the Everyman Youth Theatre with a cake cutting and a fantastic reunion with past members and supporters.

Thank you to everyone who came to watch and support our current cohort, and to all of our alumni who came back to visit. It was wonderful to see so many of you sharing fond memories and reflecting on everything the Everyman Youth Theatre has been and continues to be.

A special thank you to Stella Buckland, our incredible Education and Youth Theatre Manager, and guest director Ian Wainwright, for creating an outstanding show, and to Sheila Mander, the very first Everyman Youth Theatre Manager who we were honoured to have with us on such a special occasion.

Threads, over and out! 🎭
