Global Footsteps

Global Footsteps A charity focusing on sustainability, and education locally and with partner organisations abroad.

About us

Our vision
Global Footsteps is a local charity with a broad vision, we envision a healthy and peaceful world where people and the planet itself are cared for. Our overall objectives are to focus on sustainability and education to promote prosperity while protecting the planet for future generations. The desired result is a state of society where living conditions and resources are used t

o continue to meet human needs without undermining the integrity and stability of the natural system. Our mission
As an educational charity, our aim is to help to raise awareness and encourage sustainable ways of living at community level, whether via our local Cheltenham projects including our Food Loose refills shop or through our charity projects with our partners overseas (currently Kisumu, Kenya) which can include supporting vulnerable communities to build their own sustainable businesses. Our mission is fulfilled by building and supporting partnerships, linking with other environmental groups, with twin towns, community groups and racial justice groups. We can influence and learn from all these groups, sharing our values relating to sustainable living and to diversity and equality, and actively taking part in a global community.

We are very excited to be co-hosting a talk at The Greenhouse Cheltenham with Global Footsteps and Benter Ndeda (via a live Zoom link from Kenya) BOOK HERE >>> https://www.tickettailor.com/events/thegreenhouse/2201408

Benter will be talking about her experience of supporting practical solutions to climate justice, such as how growing sweet potatoes are helping the Aniga Women adapt to the effects of climate change.

We'll be growing orange fleshed sweet potatoes in Annecy Garden, Sandford Park, this summer - working with the Vision 21 team as a way of showing solidarity with our partners Aniga Women Initiative in Kenya and their sweet potato farming project.

Hear more about a project supporting women farmers on the shores of Lake Victoria near Kisumu. This community lives hand to mouth and is increasingly having to adapt to severe and unpredictable weather. They are growing sweet potatoes co-operatively – a crop which is drought tolerant, as well as being nutritious, and enables them to be more resilient to climate, health and economic challenges. Global Footsteps has supported them financially, providing finance for training and equipment.

Benter is a community leader, a champion of women and girls, and has experience in local politics. In collaboration with Global Footsteps and Leicestershire Climate Action, she took part in an international online conference in 2021 sharing her community’s direct experiences of climate change. A severe storm has hit the Aniga Women Initiative demonstration farm, smashed the water tank and damaged the shade nets. We are fund raising to repair the damage so the sweet potato project can continue. Please donate here and share this post https://donate.giveasyoulive.com/charity/globalfootsteps
