Two Days ago we showed you the mess. Today we'd like to show you why it was all worth it.

So
 what exactly is Common Ground?

It's a question we get asked a lot.And if we're honest
 we're still not sure we can answer it in one sentence.

Yes, we're a café.Yes, we're a community space.But we're also so much more than that.A place where you can grab a coffee, meet a friend, work for a few hours, discover local artists, celebrate culture, share an idea or simply sit quietly because life has been a bit much.

The biggest compliment we hear? "It feels like home." That is exactly why we started this journey.

The café might be the front door. But it isn't the whole house.
Behind it are conversations, creativity, partnerships, volunteering, community projects and good people wanting to make Cheltenham a little more connected.

We've noticed something happens quite a lot around here...Someone walks through the door with an idea. Our answer is almost always: “Brilliant... how can we help?"And somehow, that's how many of the best things at Common Ground begin.

Common Ground isn't a finished project.I t grows because our community grows.Every conversation, every partnership and every new idea becomes part of its story.

Come for the coffee. Stay for the people. Leave feeling like you've found your place.Because Common Ground isn't about fitting in.It's about feeling welcome. No judgement. No labels.
Just kindness, dignity, respect and a community built by good human beings, for good human beings

Two Days ago we showed you the mess. Today we'd like to show you why it was all worth it.

 what exactly is Common Ground?

It's a question we get asked a lot.And if we're honest
 we're still not sure we can answer it in one sentence.

The story of a slightly mad idea that somehow became real

So
 apparently it has been just over six months since we first opened the doors of Common Ground Cheltenham.

And before we show you the coffee, coworking, events, buns the size of your head (your words, not ours ) and people telling us, “It feels like home here”
 this is where we started.

We simply couldn't accept that a place at the heart of west Cheltenham since around 1947, full of history, memories and stories, should just end there.

So
 we decided to write the next chapter.
Most sensible people would probably have walked in and said, “Good luck with that.”
We thought
 “Yes, but imagine the cafĂ© here.”

So we started. One room. One wall. One floor. One completely unexpected problem at a time.

It was definitely NOT just a quick paint job and a trip to IKEA.

More than 5,000 volunteer hours later, thanks to our small but mighty team, incredible community, partners, supporters and the slightly crazy people who believed us when we said, “Trust us, it will look amazing”


Phase One is complete.
A huge thank you to Summerfield Trust, Gloucestershire County Council, Cheltenham Borough Council, Cotswold Bed Company, Gloucestershire College and every human being who helped us get here.

We still have a VERY long way to go. More rooms. More plans. More ideas. And probably more surprises hiding under a floor

Hey Community

After such an amazing response from all of you last week (honestly
 thank you !), our friends from Cheltenham Is Growing will now be joining us every Saturday from 10am until they’re sold out with freshly picked, locally grown vegetables.

Cafe will be open as usual serving our fantastic Ritual Coffee, our famous (slightly addictive) buns, and plenty of opportunities to pop in for five minutes and somehow still be here an hour later. We won’t judge. 😄

A massive thank you to everyone who came along and supported both us and Cheltenham Is Growing. Seeing the community come together is exactly why Common Ground exists.

A special shout-out goes to our amazing parkrunners King George V Playing Field parkrun, Cheltenham ❀ You’ve become such a Saturday tradition that one table in the cafĂ© is now officially known by the team as “the Runners’ Table.” We haven’t put a reserved sign on it
 yet.

❀ We’re so glad you’re here. But we’d be even more grateful if you helped us spread the word.

Saturday mornings at Common Ground have just got even better.

Our friends at Cheltenham Is Growing are bringing a fresh veg stall every Saturday morning. Freshly picked that very morning, so it doesn’t get much fresher than that.

Now
 this isn’t just a veg stall. It’s the first little glimpse of something exciting we’ve been quietly growing together behind the scenes. We can’t say too much yet, but trust us
 it’s worth the wait.

In the meantime, come and support local. Pick up your fresh veg, then pop into the café for a proper coffee, one of our famous buns, and maybe stay a little longer for a chat.

Who knew changing the world could start with a carrot and a coffee😉
