ADVENT • What better way to spend November 30th than creating a reusable advent calendar for the newest member of the family!? When we spotted this paintable tree in the charity shop it was meant to be!

Now, just to get the other one down from the loft and fill them both…

Do you have a reusable calendar? What do you fill yours with?

Check out gorgeous creations over the years!

IT’S TIIIIIME • Charity shops are often inundated with toys in the New Year as families clear out unwanted items to make room for their new gifts, but there are lots of reasons why having a sort out now, is much better for everyone!

Last year called on families to clear out their toy boxes and cupboards and donate their unwanted items in November, so that other children can enjoy a preloved treasure for the big day.

Whether it’s a Barbie that never made it out of the box, a Lego set your child has outgrown, or a puzzle they no longer use, your unwanted toys, books and clothing could be the perfect gift for another child!

Christmas is an incredibly expensive time of year especially for families and with the ever-rising cost of living this year might be the priciest yet.

reported that the average UK household will spend £1,811.70 on the Christmas period, 80% of the average monthly UK income.

Buying secondhand or even better, swapping, could save families huge amounts of money. Plus, getting some items out of your house before Christmas means less overwhelm on December 25th!

On Sunday November 16th, alongside , and we’ll be hosting another FREE Kids’ Swap Shop at the Stanton Rooms in Charlton Kings.

Have a sort through your toy boxes and your wardrobes and bring along a bag (if you can) and join us for a fun morning of swapping! There is no entry fee, just bring what you can, take what you need and pass it on once you’re done.

We have had some incredible items in the past, from Lego sets to baby carriers, winter coats to ride-on scooters!

See you on Sunday 16th November, 9:30-11:30.

HALF-TERM • The Halloween UV Trail at Burrows Playing Field starts this week and as an additional bit of half term fun, we’ll be hosting a crafty meet-up at the DugOut café with next Tuesday morning.

Drop in between 10:00-11:30 and your little ones can decorate a spooky biscuit while you enjoy a coffee and a catch-up!

The lovely Suzanne from will be gifting her handy snack pouches to safely transport their yummy creations home (if they make it that far!) and then you can reuse the pouches over and over for lunchboxes and snacks on the go.

Will you be joining us?

BOOK SWAP • We are so excited to be back at Literature Festival alongside on Sunday for our Big Book Swap!

We’ll be in the covered picnic area on Sunday 19th October (11:00-13:00) facilitating all the swapping action!

Have a sort through your children’s books and bring any unwanted books down to the Literature Festival on the final Sunday for swapping!

Swaps are such a great way to give everyone access to great quality books, and a fantastic way to pass on a story you’ve loved.

Don’t worry if you don’t have any books to swap, you can still come and help yourself, just make sure you pass them on once you’re finished and help spread the joy of reading!

Over the years we’ve had everything from the Gruffalo to Jacqueline Wilson, old favourites to new finds, board books to graphic novels!

If you’re unable to make the event but have books that you’d like to donate, just drop us a message and we can arrange a handover.

Will you be swapping?
