CLIMATE ANXIETY • We try to share useful tips and organise events to support our community but sometimes, it’s all just a bit much.

This will likely be the coolest summer of the rest of our lives. This is a human-induced heatwave.

Scientists suggest that similar events could become significantly more intense in the future, with a plausible scenario showing UK temperatures reaching 45°C by 2056.

According to Ed Hawkins, Professor of Climate Science at the University of Reading, such heatwaves will also become more common in the years ahead and “what felt like a freak event to grandparents in 1976 will become a new normal for their grandchildren”.

GAIL’s • Gail’s Bakery is coming to Cheltenham, and this might be controversial, but we don’t want it.

Gail’s have faced allegations of low pay, exploitative practices and racial inequities since being acquired by Boston-based private equity firm Bain Capital. Bain also tried to buy Costa from Coca-Cola and invest in military technology by the way 🥴🍉

It’s also no secret that independent hospitality businesses are struggling due to increasing running costs and customers having less money to spend (check out for just one of the hurdles) so bringing in another big chain to Cheltenham town centre seems pretty tone deaf.

We thought, instead of supporting yet another chain, why not share our local favourites!
