Barnet’s cleaners are some of the lowest-paid workers delivering services connected to Barnet Council.

These workers are doing essential work, often invisible to the public, but they are being treated unfairly.

In a cost of living crisis, low-paid workers should not have to wait for wages they have already earned. They deserve respect, dignity and to be paid on time.

Barnet UNISON is calling on Norse Group to pay workers on time and for the cleaning service to be brought back in-house in 2027.

This is a simple act of solidarity.

Please sign the petition and share it with your friends, family, workmates and community networks.

Delegates at the BFAWU Conference 2026 are up bright and early and ready to get proceedings underway here in Staffordshire.

Over the coming days, we'll be bringing you regular updates from the conference floor across our social media channels, covering debates, decisions, guest speakers and key conference business.

This year's conference will consider 52 motions, including three emergency motions and a number of proposed rule changes. Topics up for debate include ending food poverty in the UK, a Needs Budget for Cornwall (Kernow), workload limits, occupational sick pay, trans rights, the decriminalisation of s*x workers to improve safety, restoring the Union Learning Fund, leasehold reform, Employment Rights Act 2, protecting the Freeview television signal, standardising the market for lactose-free products, and calls for the UK Government to condemn the actions of the US President in Venezuela and the actions of I.C.E. in the United States.

Alongside motion debates, delegates will attend sessions on tackling the far right, increasing the visibility of women in occupational safety, and a Right to Food evidence session.

Conference will also hear from a number of invited speakers. Opening proceedings later this morning will be Foodbank Manager Karen Leighton Stone. Other speakers scheduled to address delegates include Naomi Wimborne-Idrissi, Rebecca Long Bailey MP, Green Party Deputy Leader Zack Polanski, and John Hendy KC.

Stay tuned for updates throughout Conference 2026.
